Day 1 egg freeze advice?

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone out there has had fertilised eggs frozen on day one?

We didn't get the chance to do a fresh transfer as they were worried about the risk of OHSS.

We had 14 eggs, 9 mature and 4 fertilised (all frozen day1) When we spoke to the embryologist we didn't ask why they did this ( I just seem to go blank when I speak to them) but now we're worried if these embryos are likely to make it at all.

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

X

I dont have any advice but I’d love to hear if others do 🤷🏻‍♀️
We had one fertilised frozen today… my last cycle we had 9 fertilised and they kept them all until day 5/6/7 but only one made it to freezer quality on day 5. This time we had a poor cycle and only 3 eggs: 2 mature: 1 fertilised so they froze it straight away.
I asked them why not let it develop in the lab as it’s no use to me if it can’t get to blast anyway, their answer was that while they do their best to replicate conditions in the lab, the womb is the best incubator, and if there are only a few eggs they prefer to freeze and go with a day 2/3 transfer. If there are more, they let them develop to be able to choose the strongest ones… kind of kicking myself that they might have destroyed some in my last round that could have fared better as 3 day transfers 😬
May lab does this if there are fewer than 3, maybe yours makes the same call at 4?

and… four is good btw! My first cycle I had four fertilised and got 2 blasts (1 6d and 1 poor quality, but I think that’s mainly due to our MFI problem)… one’s that will make it will make it anyway, and I’m even imagining that the freeze will give them a little rest before they have to start growing again 😉

@LuckyNovember thanks for the reply!

Interesting I wonder if they'll do a day 2 or 3 transfer with me. I completely forgot to ask the question. I always do!

Weirdly I thought the same thing about it having a little rest 😂
