Egg collection - what to expect

Hoping for some info/advice.

Due to go for egg collection next week under sedation. Just wondering if I’ll need much time off afterwards, other than the day itself. I’m self employed so this isn’t a huge issue, but just trying to get organised!

I always worked from home afterwards in fact I drove myself home (which I know is naughty!)

Perversely I used to look forward to egg collection as it's a lovely deep sleep

Thanks. I actually want to drive myself home, but they’ve basically told me they won’t allow it, which I appreciate makes sense, but still.

I felt fine and the next day. A bit bloated and tender but that was more from the meds, I felt like that before I went in!

So long as you've not got a hugely physical job, I think you'll be OK. Although it was a bit emotional not getting the news I wanted, so factor that in, in case**.

Thanks - this is good advice. I feel like I’m prepared for anything at this point, it’s a process that I find completely joyless.

They don't walk you to a car so they have no idea if you are driving or not - I just told them my "lift" was outside 😂

I felt absolutely fine walking out the hospital but had painful cramps or trapped wind for a good few days after so had to have painkillers and peppermint tea on hand. Good luck!

At my clinic, you now have to be picked up by an actual person before they even let you get dressed. So no driving home by myself...
I've been fine after two of mine and went back to work the next day. (Not allowed to go back the same day after GA.)
One time, I was feeling like I had been run over by a truck for several days after. I'm pretty sure that wasn't meant to happen. I couldn't lie down, kept passing out when I stood up. I had to sleep sitting up on the sofa for two nights.
Usually, however, it's over in minutes and nothing terrible. I'm going back in today to find out whether any of mine have made it this time round and can be transferred.
Good luck for your egg collection. :)

I had my egg collection on Friday and could never have driven home. I had a lot of follicles and woke up in quite a lot of pain. I'm not at work today as still waiting for the pain to subside. Most people are fine but I would definitely plan to have someone there for you afterwards, just in case.

I also had to be walked down to the main entrance by a nurse to meet DH, there's no way I'd have gotten away with pretending I had a lift!

Thanks - and congrats on lots of follicles.

I will have someone with me, thanks for all your advice.

I am starting out now, and I am both thrilled and terrified at the same time. Thank you all for the info x
