IVF - Round 2

Infertility · 12/05/2022 19:08

I've been undergoing tests and treatment (bloods, swabs, hycosy, clomid, IUI, IVF) since January 2019. I know some have been going through it for many more years but I'm finding it so exhausting now, especially with the thought that it may never happen (sorry to sound so depressing).
I have polycystic ovaries and had over 40 eggs collected on my last round. Ended up with 4, one AA and worst being AC.
3 transfers later (1 with 2x embryos transferred) and all failed.
I'm about to embark on another round and feel like I'm really struggling this time. I hear stories about women conceiving after previous failed transfers, but how common is it for ivf to work after 3 previous failed transfers after there appears to be nothing else wrong other than "too many eggs collected"?

Would really appreciate anyone commenting with experiences. I'm prepared for the good and bad. Just want to know some real life experiences (I also know everyone is different)

TIA

Infortinately many people seem to think ivf will work straight away and it can be very difficult when it doesn’t. I would think there is still every chance it can work for you.

tjat said, after 3 failed transfers I would ask what your clinic are doing re further testing or are they assuming it’s an egg quality issue? Even if they are at this point I would want further tests such as:

ERA - are they putting the embryos back in the right implantation window

Emma/Alice - is there an infection in your lining
hysteroscopy - anything unusual going on in the uterus such as polyp that might be preventing implantation

progesterone test - are your levels high enough to sustain pregnancy?

do you need steroids? Tests for inflammation?

Quality of embryos - have they eliminated any male issue re sperm quality such as dna fragmentation
have you had sufficient bloods done? What protocol are they proposing for this round?

Sorry you've been going through all of this. Do you mind me asking your age? Unfortunately age is such a factor in egg quality. I got pregnant on my second round. First, round had a 4aa and a 4bc, neither stuck. This round had 4aa and an early blast double transfer and now pregnant with a singleton. I'm 41 so statistically only about 1 in 5 of my embryos will be chromosomally normal.

@BetsHilton @Bryterlayter1 thanks for your replies. Really appreciate the advice.
I'm 25. I have asked my clinic if I should be having any further tests but they've said they think the failures have purely been down to number I had collected. Goal next round is to change meds to hopefully have less eggs (whilst having a good amount too obviously) so I can have a fresh transfer and not have ohss. All there previous transfers were frozen.
I think I'm just feeling really deflated because it's been so long and I think given my age, it can't just be down to bad luck. I'm not feeling hopeful for my next round. After all the procedures I've had without success, I think there surely must be something else wrong?! Nothing showed up in my hycosy and nothing unusual flagged in scans etc.
haven't had the Alice/ERA tests though. Sperm is great so issue seems to be with me.
I'll be having antagonist again. Only chance is meds.
Thank you for your advice, it's really helpful. Hate feeling so negative but after constant trips to the clinic for different procedures that have all failed, starting to feel less hopeful each time!
