Results with Metformin and Letrozole?

Hi everyone,

Just interested in your experiences.

Partner and I have been TTC now for over 2 years with no luck. I recently went to a fertility clinic who did an internal scan and found out I have PCOS but with no symptoms apart from the infertility.

I have been advised to take Metformin (500mg 3 times a day) and Letrozole 2.5mg once a day from the second day of my cycle. I took the first Metformin tablet this evening so it's very early in the process for me.

Has anyone had any luck with finally conceiving on these drugs? They said we would try it for 4 months before considering IVF.

Thank you in advance! It's also so nice knowing I'm not alone in all of this.

Hello @GM90 I'm in a similar position as you, also recently been diagnosed with PCOS and put on 1500mg metformin and 5mg of Letrozole for three months before starting IVF. Im on my first cycle taking these, so unable to share any success stories, but I've read a few on here so i'm keeping optimistic! Have you had any side effects?

@Rhianne18 thank you for your reply!

I took the first one last night so haven't noticed any side effects yet, have you?

Fingers crossed this works for us! I am optimistic and I have read really good things about these two drugs as a combo.

@GM90 I didn't notice anything with the Letrozole but I've had a few from the metformin, stomach pain and sickness but it's subsided now.

I'm on cycle day 20 I've not ovulated yet, but my body is trying to, I've been taking the CB OPK keep getting the flashing smiley, no static yet!

Hope this is the solution for us and we get our BFP soon 🤞🏼

Hi @Rhianne18 , how have you been getting on?

I have had some really horrible side effects on Metformin! Mainly nausea but it's also been making me feel like I've suddenly got the flu which is so odd!

I'm quite upset because I'm worried it will massively effect my chances if I stop taking it but I feel like I really can't stomach taking it either..

I phoned the clinic today and they have asked the doctor to call me back so I'm just waiting for that at the minute. Hopefully they can offer me an alternative.

I hope it's working out a lot better for you! 🤞

@GM90 I had exactly the same, to the point I was waking up at 4am to be sick, but I promise it's subsides, I have no side effects from it now and I'm on week 4ish! I really hope you can power through and don't need to come off it!

Im so confused if I've ovulated or not, I missed a few days testing when I got a flashing smiley on CB OPK around CD15-16, so I've continued to test on premom and am now getting a high LH readings but I have sore boobs and feel like AF is going to arrive.

@GM90 thank you so much! I can't quite believe it if I'm honest, I think as time goes on it'll all start feeling more real! The high OPK readings I was getting was actually because I was pregnant, I was adamant that it didn't work for me this month but it has and I feel so lucky!

I'm so glad that's it's given you positivity, it shows that the tablets really do work! I'm sending you so much luck for this cycle, I'll have everything crossed for you!

Hope the side effects soon subside, I found that the Letrozole didn't give me any, so hoping you don't get any either!

Keep me posted on how you get on 🤞🏼x
