Hi,

Ive name changed for this as I don’t want it connected to my usual acc.

I am 41 and we have been ttc for 18 months. We had an early miscarriage about 4 months in, but nothing since.

I contacted the doctor a few months ago and said we had had no luck, and could she run some tests and she said there was no tests to run at this stage, and that it was just statistically unlikely to happen as I was over 40.

We are in a Iucky position that we can pay to go private, but I don’t even know what the next stage is? Do I ask for a fertility check? Do we go straight for IVF? I sort of wanted the doctor to tell me the process but she was clearly not interested and was very dismissive.

I’ve tried Googling, but I keep getting overwhelmed as there is so much info out there!

Also, sorry for the add on - I have a 10 year old and my husband has other children too, but this would be our first together.

Hi there,

At this age I wouldn't waste more time and go for private IVF. I'm going through it. It is possible to have success.

Do appointments asap because even private specialists are full and make take a few weeks to see you. Private specialists may send you for more testings, there are plenty. Don't lose hope but get help soon.

Sometimes they won't know more details until you have your first collection and results.

Best wishes

Agree with previous poster you won't get IVF on the NHS so just go private - pre covid I rang a clinic and couldn't have started within 2 weeks had I wanted to. They don't really need to run many tests - maybe AMH but that's likely it - as one miscarriage is generally considered not enough to trigger further investigation (sorry) - and everything else is controlled via the protocol they put you on
