What progesterone symptoms did you experience?

Hi, I’m in my first FET TWW and I’m having a weird ache up the left hand side of my torso and I’m assuming it’s the progesterone (I’m taking Cyclogest). It made me wonder what funny progesterone symptoms other people get? Did anyone else get anything like this?

Yes that weird left hand side pain and cramps and bloating oh and sore boobs. So hard not to read in pregnancy symptoms from them! How many days are you?

thislittlebird · 24/04/2022 22:31

@2ndstreet you got it too? Weird. I’m only 3dp5dt and obviously I’m hyper aware but I knew it would be the progesterone, because it’s early and just a bit odd lol. I very, very rarely get sore boobs so I would be surprised if I got them, but who knows, I’m sure weirder things have happened on these pessaries.

Hi @thislittlebird and @2ndstreet I am currently on my third round of Clomid and Metformin, but this is my first round of using Cyclogest from 3DPO

1st round of Clomid = Not pregnant but had sore breasts, cramps, and fatigue from 1-2DPO

2nd round of Clomid = I was pregnant and had the same symptoms: sore breasts, cramps, fatigue immediately after ovulation. Started Cyclogest at 5 weeks pregnant. Sadly I had a MMC at 8weeks (the baby had stopped developing by the time I started cyclogest)

This time I started cyclogest at 3DPO and I don't have any symptoms at all! I am only 6DPO but usually by now I'd have a lot going on but I've got nothing! I was reading this morning about how low progesterone can leave estrogen unchecked and how for some people it is actually estrogen that causes sore breasts, rather than progesterone, so maybe taking Cyclogest has evened me out! Either way this cycle is a strange one for me.

thislittlebird · 25/04/2022 17:02

@Hana89 it’s strange how much it differs! I have had one Cyclogest pessary per day when doing OI and had zero symptoms, but I expect I’ll get some from two pessaries per day this time!

Sorry to hear about your second cycle, do they think the earlier progesterone would have helped? I have low progesterone too and there was a minor cock up where I should have been taking it a few days earlier this round but I completely forgot amidst all the timing my of ovulation worries. I started on day of transfer in the end.

When I had no symptoms on Cyclogest before I immediately assumed the letrozole hadn’t worked and I needed more progesterone. I got myself a private blood test to check and my progesterone was 108 lol. So yeah, no symptoms are clearly the standard setting for me.

@thislittlebird I think the honest truth is that they don't know whether it would have helped or not. Because of the regime I have now, I think the doctors best guess is that yes it would have helped, and that is why they've started me so early this time, but we can't know for sure and I guess if we all thought too much about these things we'd go mad!

I take two pessaries a day too. I'm sure that the few days in your case won't cause anything bad at all - you've started them the day of transfer so the hormones are in your system for these important early days ☺️

I have got fatigue today though! It's 6pm, I've just made a coffee to try and keep me awake a few more hours. Absolutely exhausted! I'm hoping that could be a sign of a little bean settling in, but I'll have to wait another 8 days to test and find out!

Wishing you all the luck in the 🌍 xxx

thislittlebird · 25/04/2022 18:28

@Hana89 it can’t hurt to have that regime at least, so that’s a good thing. I’m definitely going mad!

Yeah I’m hoping the same day as transfer is fine. The clinic were confused because I asked for a natural cycle to avoid the oestrogen, because I get hormonal migraines, and they thought I wanted no meds and I only realised they hadn’t mentioned progesterone when I was in the clinic on transfer day.

Fingers crossed it’s a good sign! So are you testing on the 3rd? I’m the 2nd but I booked the 3rd off just in case I’m not feeling great. I’m not particularly optimistic, feels like I’m too old (39 next month) for this to work first time but who knows!

OP posts:
2ndstreet · 25/04/2022 20:27

@thislittlebird definitely not too old. I’m 41 and still hoping it’s worked first cycle for me! I’m supposed to test on 1st but think I’m going to for 27th instead (which is 14dpo rather than 14dpt)

thislittlebird · 25/04/2022 20:42

@2ndstreet I find it hard how so many people going through the same thing seem to be mid 30s or younger, makes me worry I left it all too late and it all takes so bloody long! I need some of your optimism. You're OTD is a similar time to mine then, when did you have a transfer? I hate testing so I will wait it out until May 2nd, that will be 11dp5dt, the OTD the clinic gave me.

@thislittlebird transfer was on the 18th, when was yours? I’m both excited and dreading testing tomorrow!

Hana89 · 26/04/2022 08:08

@thislittlebird I'm 33, so I am in the slightly younger group, but my nan was 36 when she conceived for the first time. She had been trying for 13 years, with so many losses, and it was 1955 so there wasn't much help available (she was just constantly told to lose weight and advised to smoke more to relax! 😳). I always think about her when I'm feeling blue about my fertility struggles. And my mum was 32 when she had me and 42 when my sister surprised her! Haha!
39 is definitely not too late - keep the faith, my dear! 🍀💖🌟

thislittlebird · 26/04/2022 08:53

@Hana89 yeah, my mum was 36 when she had me and I think it probably lulled me into a false sense of security slightly? Like it’s ok, it’ll happen. Anyway, we didn’t start trying until I was 36 and here we are 3 years later no further along. I’ll try to keep the faith, but the FET TWW really is such a weird time, I’m wobbling often lol

@thislittlebird oh my goodness it’s positive! I stupidly tested at 10dp5dt and got an almost invisible pink line (my 13 year old spotted it 10 mins after I tested) so have been beating myself up about evaporation lines & spending hours on google analysing photos of them. Tested again today at 12dp and it’s a strong second line. Fingers crossed you get the same result on the 2nd

thislittlebird · 29/04/2022 08:07

@2ndstreet omg great news! Congratulations! This tww is a roller coaster of confusion lol. My OTD is 11dp5dt and I really did want that to be accurate and now I’m thinking it might not be 😬

@2ndstreet CONGRATULATIONS 💖🌟🥳 That is wonderful news!! Xxxx

Hana89 · 29/04/2022 08:11

@thislittlebird I know exactly what you mean about the TWW. I'm managing it better this time than I have previously but it is still really tough - especially the last few days before you can test. That is when I really start to ramp up my "what if" anxiety.
I'm keeping everything crossed for us! And for @2ndstreet to have a happy, healthy pregnancy! Roll on January 2023!! 🥳🥳🥳

2ndstreet · 29/04/2022 08:20

@thislittlebird @Hana89 thank you so much ☺️. I do not understand why some clinics give OTD as 11dp and some 14. I know frozen can delay implantation a little but mine was fresh?! I really wanted to see a line progression before calling them hence my decision to test early. I do wish I’d waited to 12dp for 1st test tho

thislittlebird · 29/04/2022 09:16

@2ndstreet I’ve been thinking about this, I don’t know why it varies so wildly. My clinic told me to test 11dp5dt, a friend on another thread was told 16dp! Both had a frozen day 5 transfer. I can only assume the clinics make it up as they go along lol

I don’t really get many PMS symptoms but what I do get are menstrual and ovulation migraines. Today is the day AF would be due and yesterday felt like the start of my normal hormonal migraine which put me on a downer but it hasn’t developed. So now I’m having great fun wondering if the progesterone is messing with it or it’s a good sign 🥴. The what if of it all is so cruel @Hana89, our bodies really should have evolved to be more aware than this lol
