Hi

We have just had another chemical after our 4th transfer. Does anybody have any success stories or advice on what you changed for a successful pregnancy. Im wondering what to do next or how long to go before looking at other options. We have had one fresh cycle, 7 embryos from that one round, 4 transfers and 2 of them chemical and 2 bfn. They have mainly been natural, my 3 transfer had progesterone and my last one they tested and found low progesterone so took that on day 5 after fet but maybe was too late, my levels were above normal day of transfer so don't know what happened. Sorry for the long post thank you for any responses I really appreciate the support.

Depending on your age, statistically only around half or less of those embryos would be genetically normal. So that could explain the failures/chemical pregnancies however after 4 fails, I would do a test for infection/bacteria in uterus (Emma/Alice or Serum in Greece offer something where you post off menstrual blood/ fertilitysis do similar) and also ask for intra muscular injections of progesterone if your levels were low or dropped during the TWW. You could also ask consultant for low dose steroids in case that helps and if you didn’t want to do more detailed immune testing.

I would also hope your consultant is proposing something new after 4 fails - what have they said?

@Dochas12111 hey , sorry to jump on , I am in quite similar situation as OP .
Can you ask consultant for steroid without testing first ! ? I am also looking for steroid called predionsole but consultant said no he doesn’t belive in them ?!
Sad @Roselovera sorry for your losses and bfns , I have no advice for you but I hope someone can help you as I’m in quite similar situation to you xx

Dochas12111 · 09/04/2022 14:02

@ShareLove one of my consultants offered me 5mg of prednisone as a precaution without any immune testing. When I did immune testing I was recommended to take 10mg so I do wonder if taking the 5mg would’ve done the job without needing to test. I moved clinic in the end without doing that transfer on 5mg.

If your consultant doesn’t believe in them or immunes I guess it’s up to you whether you stay with that clinic or not - for me it would be whether the clinic were proposing something different and if not I’d just move elsewhere.

@Dochas12111 thanks ! X isn’t 5-10 mg too low ? Every thread Iv read on here on mumsnet , people are on 20-25mg a day ? This is for nk cells reason , I belive this is my problem but I haven’t been tested but trying to push my consultant to give it to me anyways but he won’t, so I’m pausing my ivf treatment to go private and get the steroid and then start ivf again x

ShareLove · 09/04/2022 14:09

@Dochas12111 also I’m on NHS cycle of ivf so I can’t move clinics Sad

Thank you for your replies very helpful. Dochas I was 33 when they did the er and got the embryos, agree that I have heard half fail, that is interesting about the infection I don't know a lot about that, I have had tests before this transfer I had a 3d ultrasound that was normal and blood tests one was abnormal I will check either immune or blood clotting but then tested again 3 months later and it was normal so this time we decided to do blood tests during treatment to check hormones as it was a natural transfer, I am with nhs and I think I need to ask more questions they didn't want to do tests until 3 failed, I will also ask about the other things as well thank you. Sharelove im sorry to hear you are in similar circumstance, how many transfers have you had? Are you going to continue privately now do you have any embryos frozen? We have 3 so want to keep going but don't want to waste them if something can help us be successful

@ShareLove my treatment was for moderate NKC - if you have high you would be on more but I would doubt any consultant would put you on more than 5mg without the tests so it’s good you are getting them done.

@Roselovera it’s good they have done some investigations but it could be time for more targeted ones around failure such as those I listed above.I would also push for them now. I did all those tests after 2 failed transfers however I pushed for them as I didn’t make many embryos so didn’t want to waste them.

Roselovera · 09/04/2022 20:51

Exactly I don't want to waste anymore it's so hard isn't it, thank you so much for your advice I will push for more tests it is worth it in the grand scheme if you end up with more information

Sorry to hear everything you’ve been through OP. My clinic never tested progesterone levels during my transfers. I asked my consultant in our follow up assessment if my short luteal phase
Could have anything to do with the failure of my first cycle to which he replied yes and prescribed lubion (injectable progesterone) which I took along side 3 x cyclogest. The next transfer was successful but i don’t know if that was due to lubion since my progesterone levels were never tested.

Roselovera · 10/04/2022 08:35

Thank you and I am glad it worked for you, I think I underestimated the progesterone I will be asking about that I do think that has something to do with it knowing it was low x
