Has anyone used Meriofert for ivf?

Since neither gonal f nor pergoveris has worked successively for me in the past, I was given Meriofert. Has anyone tried it?
With gonal f and pergoveris, my follicles grew ok, but eggs either weren't good quality, not mature or too mature, so not something I'd want a repeat of.

Hi i used Meriofert with my last cycle , previously used menopur with only 4 eggs, with Meriofert i got 17 eggs, 12 were mature. i felt the change in medication definitely worked for me.

MeAndZig · 08/04/2022 09:06

Hi - i used meriofert , apparently it gives better quality eggs for women not sure where I read that. I only produced 6 mature eggs, two of them were top quality and one of them resulted in a successful pregnancy. It’s not widely used but I read good things about it.

Hoping4baby21 · 08/04/2022 12:29

Oh this is good to know, my consultant has recommended meriofert for me and fostimon as well. I'm glad people have had good experiences with it because I haven't heard about it. I just discovered I have Lowe AMH so that might explain poorer response last time despite a good AFC. Also maybe why only 4 of 7 fertilised perhaps others were poor quality of immature. I'm hoping to start in May, how about everyone else?

KatBeCool · 08/04/2022 18:37

@smith1986 oh that's a huge difference and such positive too! Are they fertilized yet?

@Hoping4baby21 I am on day 8 of stims. Tomorrow is second US. They're aiming for the egg collection on the 13th. They saw about 8-10 good size follicles last time, we'll see how many tomorrow.

@KatBeCool that's good progress! Just got some news that everything might be delayed because my TSH came back high and vit d levels so I need to retest in a few weeks and it might delay everything.

Francesmalin · 08/04/2022 22:45

@KatBeCool can you explain more when you say your eggs where either immature or not good quality? I just had my third failed round (2 bemfola, 1 pergoveris) and always get immature eggs. This last round the doctor said the eggs where abnormal and said that probably I can't produce mature eggs so keen to check other people experience before I give up the thought of having kids in the future.

Can I ask which is your clinic?

Thank you

KatBeCool · 09/04/2022 12:03

@Hoping4baby21 what was your vitamin D? Mine was 43, they want above 50, so I'm not far off. I'm already on levothyroxine.

@Francesmalin Technically, eggs themselves have quality too, it's just not shared usually. They look at shape and such. That's also how they determine maturity. Simply by looking at them. It is very much dependent on the meds though. Have you tried mini ivf?

OP posts:
Hoping4baby21 · 09/04/2022 14:12

@KatBeCool mine was 132 it shouldn't be above 125! Lmao taking too much supplementation obviously. But I've stopped my prenatal and vit d now and will just take coq10 and alpha lipoic acid until levels are back to normal. Even my b12 was raised. I guess it means my diet must be giving me all I need and supplementation was OTT for me.

I should get the prescription in the post Monday or Tuesday and then will start. I booked a dr appt for 25th April earliest they had ( this is the appt to tell me my results and likely prescribe the meds) when I forwarded my results to the ivf clinic they said they would sent prescription in the post ASAP. I really don't want to delay a month so I'm tempted to call my GP again and ask for a recheck in 2 weeks time as opposed to 3 weeks like my IVF clinic directed me. The 4 weeks would be up by the time we needed to start meds for the cycle end of May, so I'm thinking if in 2 weeks the levels are down enough then we can proceed with no delay. Instead of unnecessarily missing a month.

I also need to do a dummy transfer and 3D sis before meds begin so I need to ask my IVF clinic if we can get on with that whilst we wait for the rechecks.

What do you think?

KatBeCool · 09/04/2022 14:37

@Hoping4baby21 132 that's crazy! How much Vitamin D were you taking? Are you planning on fresh transfer? If not, I would recheck levels before the transfer. If you are doing fresh, you definitely don't want too high vitamin D, I would recheck. But you're aiming for 50-70, that might take time.

My egg collection scheduled for the 13th. I have about 8-10 good size follicles still. One thing I noticed with meriofert is that the growth is definitely more even between follicles. They're all very similar in size, none are ahead or behind. With gonal, I had follicles of all different sizes, from huge to tiny.

OP posts:
Francesmalin · 09/04/2022 16:47

@katbecool does maturity depend from medication? I had 2 cycles with bemfola on a mild IVF cycle and the eggs were all immature. Now I just did a cycle with complete different protocol including growth hormones, letrozole, pergoveris and steroids and the doctors said the shape of my eggs was do weird they couldn't say if they were immature or just shit quality. As I said my doctor thinks it's a genetic problem so most likely I will never have children. Hence why I was curious to understand a bit more about your situation and if you also ha high/all immature eggs in your prev cycles and what your consultants told you

KatBeCool · 09/04/2022 17:48

@Francesmalin I think it might depend on medication. The second I said that neither gonal nor pergoveris yielded a pregnancy or many blastocysts, she immediately said to use meriofert. Some of my eggs could also be sticking to follicle walls so they can't be collected. Which could be why I always got far less eggs than I had follicles. But from what I know if egg quality is an issue, mini ivf is favorable. How many eggs have they collected from you? And what size were your follicles?

OP posts:
Hoping4baby21 · 09/04/2022 18:28

@KatBeCool yes deffo rechecking i haven't started stims yet so not a concern for that but I think they want it to be low before we start. I thought it just needed to be below 125, but maybe not they didn't say. I was taking a bit d spray and whatever was in my prenatals. I knew it was more than needed but it's winter and we live in the UK and im black so I figured all those things im definitely deficient lmao! Apparently totally opposite!

No idea how long vit d will take to go down, hopefully not too long but I've stopped taking everything now. I'm hoping like you said it's more of a concern for transfer so we can get on with the prep stuff and even start stims with the view that it will be all in order once we get to transfer. I don't want another month delay.

That's great that meriofert is more even growth that's why I need, I had some below before aswell. Good luck with your retrieval this coming week! 8-10 is good!

KatBeCool · 14/04/2022 08:59

So they got 6 eggs yesterday out of 8 follicles. They said one was empty and one was a cyst. My boobs hurt like they do after ovulation. My notes mention something about yellow body, so maybe one of the follicles did ovulate. I'll know tomorrow on the progress.

Hoping4baby21 · 14/04/2022 09:10

@KatBeCool hope your resting up after egg collection! And all the good vibes for your fertilisation report updates :)

KatBeCool · 19/04/2022 08:15

My final results are in. Out of 6 eggs 5 were mature, 4 fertilized. On day 2 all had four cells.
I now have two frozen blasts, one 5-day and one 6-day.
I definitely lost one egg/follicle to ovulation, which must've happened just the night before collection. I have all the symptoms I usually have that ovulation has occurred and increased progesterone. But I suppose it was a worthy sacrifice to collect the others.

In comparison to my previous ivf, on pergoveris, I had 20 follicles, 12 eggs collected, only 6 mature, all six fertilized, one 5 day blast, failed.

On gonal f, I had 16 follicles, 9 eggs collected, 8 mature, but only 4 fertilized, all these were frozen at 3 days, all failed.

My AFC was much lower when I was starting meriofert, normally I had at least 15, but only nine-ten were seen this time. Overall, I would say meriofert worked much better for me in getting follicles to grow evenly and containing mature eggs.

Hoping4baby21 · 19/04/2022 13:55

@KatBeCool that's great news congrats on your frozen embryos! Are you banking or doing testing is that why they were both frozen and not transferred?

My GP is taking forever to give me back my full list of results for the screening tests, it's like a drip feed which is annoying and holding everything up honestly! The other concern is that they didn't do all the tests as requested and we will need to repeat, I think we have enough time to still get it sorted but we need to know that ASAP!

Hope you had a nice Easter.

KatBeCool · 19/04/2022 22:22

@Hoping4baby21 yes, we are testing due to my age. Thankfully, I'm not a genetic carrier for anything. My husband is apparently carrying a gene for cystic fibrosis. Who knew? Nobody in his family had it. But worst case, our child will be a carrier too. We both have MTHFR mutations, that's my bigger concern.

I really dislike when medical professionals are unresponsive. Which tests are you waiting on? Are all the ones you got so far good?

OP posts:
Hoping4baby21 · 19/04/2022 22:35

@KatBeCool oh ok makes sense! Well I wish you luck when you get your results I can imagine it is nerve wrecking.

I have had thrombrophilla bloods done and found out my factor 8 levels are raised putting me at a higher risk of leg clots. Who knew! NHS refused to do this test as I haven't had enough failures of losses (absolute madness) and turns out I do have an issue that could be impacting things! WILD!

My thyroid is acting up at the moment so on levothyroxine. I feel like I just keep discovering more issues, but uterine scans, lap, hysteroscopy and dye test (for tubes) showed no issues so that's good. Well actually last scan showed a small fibroid which is new and frustrating!

So now i just need the dr to come back with this final test for me and my husband to redo the urine test and we should be able to start next cycle providing my 3D Sis and dummy transfer don't reveal anything. Fingers and toes and everything else crossed!

Husband has ok SA but the dna frag came back raised so we will do ICSI and IMSI next time. I really hope that this protocol is it for us!

KatBeCool · 20/04/2022 14:06

@Hoping4baby21 were you seriously told that you haven't had enough losses to warrant more testing? That's ridiculous. On one hand, I can't believe all the testing and prodding we have to endure, on the other hand places that skimp out on testing and missing important pieces are inexcusable.

OP posts:
Hoping4baby21 · 20/04/2022 18:11

@KatBeCool yep basically I couldn’t believe it and then to find an issue that may have an impact it’s just crazy making and potentially would have just created more loses and a waste of time with little to no chance of success.

Got my missing result from the GP so that’s sent off to the clinic and the only other thing is my husbands urine test which we are waiting on a new appt for. I think with just that one thing we should be ok I’m getting it done on time to start next cycle .Fingers crossed!

Niomelousie · 22/09/2022 23:30

Hey so I have started my first IVf journey I am 30 and my partner Is 34. After all our tests I found out I had blocked and scared tubes and had to have them both removed ( I was devastated) however fast forward and I am on day 3 of my I injections merofert 2 amplets to 1 liquid each evening and in 4 days I start adding my second injection. I also have a scan on Monday.
My partners sperm sample came back above average and all my other tests were fine baring my thyroid and I have a low egg reserve for my age. I have been given thyroid tablets to take.
My ivf consultant has said we have a very high chance of success due to no other factors stopping us from conceiving barring the obvious facts I no longer have any tubes due to the blockages.

Has anyone had a successful outcome using merofert and on there first try. I'm so worried about everything but trying to keep positive.

PMAmostofthetime · 23/09/2022 00:19

@Niomelousie So not my first try, but I used Meriofert for 2 cycles, first was short protocol
8 eggs none made it to blastocyst had 2 Cavitating morulas transferred unsuccessful.

2nd cycle long protocol 21 eggs, 3blast. One 12 week onboard 2 frozen.

Good Luck

Niomelousie · 23/09/2022 09:14

Thankyou for your reply.

Leaf86 · 23/09/2022 11:19

I used Fostimon and Meriofert. 15 eggs, 13 fertilised, 10 blasts. Just had my first transfer so not sure if it has worked yet.

Niomelousie · 23/09/2022 12:41

Good luck I hope it works for you. 🥰
