Abnormal eggs

Hello everyone,

Just writing on this thread to understand if some of you have experienced the same thing I am going through in my infertility journey.

I have just concluded my third round of IVF and it seems like that I have a potential genetic issue where my eggs don't reach the final stage of maturation. At the microscope the eggs seem of poor quality and of an abnormal shape.

Last year I did two rounds of IVF and both concluded with high number of immature eggs (all immature really) and with my new clinic we initially thought this was a problem with stimulation. Fast forward cycle 3 the outcome is the same and my doctor seems to think that the problem is not with the drugs but with the egg quality and maturation at a genetic level.

Let me know if someone have been through the same thing and similar issues with maturation or abnormal eggs.

Cq10 is really good at improving egg quality, and development maybe have a look into it? Ask your ivf dr about it

@toria33 I took it for 3-5 months and didn't do much. I think my problem is genetic as I might have a oocyte maturation failure sort of thing where I can't mature eggs. Pretty shit situation to be in

@francesmalin what dose did you take? It can be taken up to 1600mg a day. Completely understand your frustration

Hi, Did you get a solution to this? I’m currently experiencing a similar problem. Donor eggs have been suggested but I’m not keen on that idea.

Really hoping you found a solution!

Hey @Juliette23 unfortunately after 4 IVF cycles with different doctors and protocols I have surrendered to the fact that my eggs are abnormal and I won't have chances to have biological babies.
I don't know if egg donation is the answer for us as a couple but after a long year of sadness and trying to go around my grief I am warning up to the idea of using a donor. Not an easy decision and I don't know if it's for me but I am considering it. Take your time to heal and make decisions! Don't listen to the doctors cause they push you to use a donor as if it was a next step but it's not so straight forward!!!

How many IVF cycle have you had and what is the outcome?

Ah I’m so sorry to hear this. Its just the hardest thing, no words to describe it really. We’ve done 2 round now, both times 7 eggs, only 2 mature, 1 fertilised - both times exactly the same. First round we managed to do a transfer but it was negative. Second round it stopped growing at 8 cells. We have our debrief soon but they’ve told me is very unusual to get so many immature eggs, especially because we tweaked my protocol the second time so they arent sure what they can do. I dont want donor eggs but I’d like a second opinion before we give up. The ironic thing is we were referred due to male factors so its a shock to now be the one with the problem. So bloody hard! Think we need a break before another round.

Francesmalin · 18/03/2023 18:18

Yeah, definitely take a break, talk to other doctors. In all my cycles I collected an average of 12 egg. Never had one mature. Mine is a very rare thing, probs a genetic problem. Have an other opinion... You got mature eggs and blasto so worth trying again. Sorry I can be more helpful

After 7 miscarriages of 8 babies I had a healthy child born 2/2/23 after using 200 mg of coenzyme q10 twice a day. We conceived naturally, on the edge of giving up. it Really helped me personally with egg quality and maturing
