Constant spotting on metformin

Hi all, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and prescribed metformin, I started taking it at the beginning of feb, and have since upped my dose to 500mg 3 times a day but I've had constant spotting ever since, with ewcm. I've had some episodes of proper period cramps for a day or so when the bleeding has increased but still not to what I'd normally have to class it as a period. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it regulated into a proper cycle by itself? I'm wondering if I should call the doctor and ask for something to induce a proper bleed as its just a bit annoying now really and I want to see if I ovulate 😂 I'm taking it as a positive as before I'd have 160 day cycles with not a drop in between so it seems like SOMETHING is happening but I'm not really sure what to make of it!

Hello! I didn't but it did stop eventually... A couple of days after I posted tbf 🤣🤣

It stopped then I had a lot of spotting in the week before an LH surge, then spotting around ovulation so I wonder if it meant it was doing something hormonal which was affecting the tissues.. I also have endometriosis so do seem to spot at times of hormonal changes in a cycle!

Thank you! Mine seems to be stopping now, replaced with signs of ovulation so I've everything crossed! 😅 interesting you say that, I've all signs of endo too and currently trying to beg for a lap!

@Endogal I’m the exact same as you now, since i upped to 3 tablets I keep spotting but not enough that I would class as a period, but I can’t help but wonder did this mean I ovulated or not 😂 and like you my current cycle has been 105 days without a drop until now! I have pcos so I do use ovulation strips but they always look the same,

did you end up getting your period back? Xxx

Hi @Katie2021 I did get my cycles back!! I had spotting on and off for about 5 weeks after upping my dose to 3 a day, I spotted loads before my first ovulation, and now have ovulated twice more since then but didn't have that kind of spotting again. Hopefully the same will happen for you! Xx

@Endogal aww thank you for replaying! Aw that’s amazing! Glad it worked for you! This is my 5th week on metformin, I’ve done 2.5 weeks on 3 a day dosage and have had lots of spotting on and off last week! I kept thinking it would turn into a period but it just kept stopping. Hopefully it’s a good sign of ovulating then! I hope it works the same for me! Xx
