Hi all, tomorrow I have my first gynae appointment and I'm really nervous. I've never been to a gynae before and I dont know what to expect.
Firstly I know this is an utterly stupid question, but I've never been to any personal appointments before and I'm quite nervous socially right now as I havent had much interaction since covid began so my social skills have really suffered. When I go in do I start talking about why I'm referred here, ( hi so I'm here because)
.. or will she have that on file and begin talking when shes ready ? Stupid I know but I'm nervous how to start the first interaction .
Anyway what can I expect from my first appointment? My gp referred me to gynae and I've been waitin 3 years for this appointment. I was referred because ive been trying to conceive for many many years with no luck. I was diagnosed with pcos about 3 years ago as possible reason. Gp said need to see a gynae as time is ticking on , I'm 36 . Gynae assistant rang me to give appointment a month ago but I havent received any letter which he told me I should have received when I spoke to him on phone the other day as I rang to confirm I definitely still had appointment as I'd not had the letter he said was sending. Therefore as I don't have a letter i dont know if theres any special instructions or what to expect. I am currently experiencing an extremely scanty period right now, am I supposed to still go ? I cant cancel as I couldnt take first appointment offered and he said I wouldn't be offered another for a long time if I dont take this.
How does this process work ?
Does the first appointment involve a physical examination? Internal?
Will they do any tests ?
Do you just have the one gynae appointment or is the first just a consultation to talk ?
I have put on some weight over lockdown which I'm trying to shift now and I am technically overweight now and when I have my period which is rare this days, I pack on pounds. I've gained 5 pounds in a week and I'm so bloated from it. I've been reading all sorts of scary stories online that people were refused treatment on nhs due to weight, could they refuse it at first appointment? Or will I just be given advice to lose weight and called back? Or is first the final appointment? I'm just so confused how this works and so nervous . I'm so nervous that I couldnt even sleep last night.
If anyone can provide me as much information as possible from your experience so I know when to prepare myself for
