Low sperm count

Can anyone give recommendations in terms of vitamin supplementation and/or diet that can help to improve sperm count?

My husband is already taking wellman conception and conceive plus (motility support). He also recently started taking proxseed.

In January the sperm count was 15 million but now it has reduced to 6 million but morphology and motility has improved and caffeine/alcohol has been cut down completely and diet is very good.

Can someone shed some light on personal experiences because we have obviously done our research but want to hear from real life cases and can’t seem to understand why it has dropped again?

@DespRainbow iv just undergone my first IVF ICSI cycle currently in my 2WW. My OH was told he has Severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia after undergoing his semen analysis back in June last year. (Very low count, motility & morphology) After undergoing 4 months of weight loss and taking the following supplements -

Proxeed plus sachets (2 per day)
Vitamin e
omega 3
Coq10
Vitamin c

He also ate unsalted nuts (walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts, cashews) & lots more veg. No alcohol , reduced caffiene

After all that he had another SA and he had huge improvement & were were able to have ICSI and 6 out of 8 eggs fertilised 😊.

Good luck with your journey!

@Gigi89x my husband already has a very good diet and we are vegetarian so lots of vegetables in our diet. His also been having nuts as well so i just can’t seem to understand why the count has dropped again. Caffeine has cut down. 0 alcohol intake. Lots of water

What strength of omega 3, co-enzyme Q10 and vitamin C was your partner taking?

Ive read other blogs that proxseed lowered sperm count for others?! Just doesn’t make any sense and fed up of spending money on expensive products.

PS - congrats on your first ivf/icsi cycle. We are going ahead with this too but they are just monitoring my cycle atm

I find count can fluctuate - my DH count was 1 million on one test, then 18 million at our first IVF and then 6 million on the next one. Now stays around 8-10 million after he got a variocoele fixed.

Have you done a DNA fragmentation test? If not I would really push for this as fragmentation is nearly more important than count and if it is out of normal range a urology appointment can find something wrong that can help fix it - infection / variocele. We had terrible outcomes at IVF until we fixed the frag which was crazy high.

My DH was on:

Biocare vitamin c 500 - 1 tablet x2 a day
Ubiquinol (better form of coq10) - 400mg x1 a day
Proceive max men - 1 sachet per day
Uno Cardio WHC + Vitamin D (high strength omega 3) - x1 per day
Mor DHA (not EPA!!) - 1 tablet x2 a day (again high dose omega 3)

My DH also very healthy - minimal alcohol (some red wine), minimal caffeine, healthy weight, sporty, no health issues, good diet. So it was a big shock to us when his results came back so bad.

I got these supplement recommendations from a fertility dietician.

Thanks for coming back to me @Gigi89x and @DespRainbow - we're going to start ICSI in September. Go through waves of feeling optimistic and then feeling like we will never get there! Desperate for it to be our turn now. Congratulations to you both - it's nice hearing positive news! xxx

@marshk wishing you all the best 💕 - i know exactly how you feel…it really is a wave of emotions but take it easy. If it helped - i did absolutely nothing and put myself first and took it very easy. Hardly went out and took no stress on. Cut out negative people during that time as well. Really hope it works out for you too x
