Ivf: should I transfer 1 or 2 embryos?

Hello, I am on my third ivf cycle (frozen), with four years ttc and three miscarriages, age 34.

I have to make a decision whether to transfer one or two embryos by next week, and I can't settle on a decision. Some days I'm certain what to do and then I sway back the other way! I wanted to run it past you all to gather more opinions?

The clinic have said they will allow me two embryos: I don't meet the criteria where they would outright refuse me so if I want to, I can.

They obviously highlighted that they follow government guidelines and it's their policy to keep multiple births to a minimum. They also reiterated the risks of a multiple pregnancy.

The reason why I'm considering it because my embryos do not make it beyond 5/6 weeks and so I don't have high hopes for future cycles either. I hope that if I do two, I save myself another cycle: both money and time, if at least one were to stick!

We are completely open to the idea of twins, but hearing about the risks and reading stuff on the internet makes me fall back again.

What do you think?

Hi there. Unfortunately, I made absolutely no progress whatsoever at Monday's scan. They decided to cancel my cycle after 31 days of Buserelin injections Sad. They say that I should expect a period within a week and I'll start again, but without Buserelin! I think that's what undid me this time round, it just shut down my system too well! They will also put me on a higher dosage of estrogen immediately. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

@IsabelHerna

I never asked: how are things with you? Are you currently going through ivf or previously successful from one? Smile

My buddy from another thread! Grin

Sorry to hear that you're having a bad day! Don't let the symptoms make you doubt that it's worked. Remember that these symptoms are common for both AF and implantation! Even if you didn't get similar symptoms in a previous cycle, it doesn't give indication either way: women have different symptoms in different pregnancies.

I hope someone can come along with positive stories because, as you know, I don't have any from myself!

@EasterBunny7 aww good to see you here Smile yeah the cramps have thankfully calmed down now but it’s itching all over my body have to contend with now! So many weird things seem to happen to me during the 2WW. You are right though about every pregnancy is different. Let’s hope this is a good sign something might be happening but trying not to read in to anything at this stage! Only on day 4. hope you are ok xx

We have a person in our group who is having triplets from the transfer of two embryos. ShockShockShock

Of course, I know there's always a possibility, but you think it'll never be you!

This decision about putting back 1 or 2 rears its ugly head again! Hmm

@EasterBunny7 lol we were debating this for ages and now it might be too late for us. But I guess you just have to deal with whatever happens. When there’s a will there’s a way!

Hi @EasterBunny7 how did you get on with ivf? Did you end up transferring 1 or 2 embryos? X
