Normal fsh and LH but low progesterone

Hi, is it possible to have normal FSH and LH but not ovulate? I’ve had my progesterone tested at various points of my cycle a few times and it always shows no ovulation but my other tests are normal. Has anybody else experienced similar? My doctor said that even though my progesterone is low the normal FSH and LH show I’m ovulating

Do you have a diagnosis?.

When were your LH and FSH levels actually tested?. These hormone levels are tested usually on or around day 2 and they should also be compared against each other.

Progesterone is usually measured on day 21.

Hi, no I don’t have a diagnosis of anything they said from my blood tests and ultrasound that it doesn’t look like I have polycystic ovaries but I have really irregular periods and and my progesterone keeps showing really low. I think my tests were done on day 2 or 3 of my cycle and the progesterone was day 21 then repeated on day 28 and I came on my period a week later and then I had a progesterone test on a different cycle and that showed no ovulation either

Hi @Amyjake123 I'm literally in the same situation as you. All my levels were normal on initial blood tests, but then both my day 21 progesterone ones came back low (aka no ovulation). Also have irregular periods which vary by more than 7 days.

Have had some private tests done and I have a cyst on one of my ovaries which could be blocking ovulation from that ovary. It's frustrating though, would rather have a clear diagnosis! Once the cyst is gone though they have said I could have ovulation induction (though this is privately as I need to wait two years via NHS due to where I live), so maybe something like that would help you too?

I would say keep pushing your GP and ask for an ultrasound scan to check your ovaries x

Hi Janey! Thanks for replying. It’s so frustrating isn’t it! I had an ultrasound done which showed a 3.5cm haemorrhagic cyst on one of my ovaries but when I had an ultrasound 6 months later it had disappeared. Did they say which type of cyst you have? X

@Amyjake123 all they've said is that it looks normal, I think they call it a functional cyst? It's quite large though, and if it gets any bigger will need surgical removal (fingers crossed that isn't the case!). I can't have any ovulation induction medication until it's healed though.

Has your Dr recommended anything, or discussed next steps with you? Really curious as we seem to be pretty much exactly in the same boat xx

Well to be honest I suffer quite badly with my mental health and I’m on a lot of medication for it so the doctor said it maybe best if I don’t think about having a baby at the minute which I agreed with. I know it sounds bad but I go through phases of wanting one then my mental health will start up and I feel dead certain that I don’t so I think it’s best to just leave it for now and see if my situation with my mental health changes which I doubt! It’s just bugging me because I know there is something wrong and I would still like to know what the problem is! And age isn’t on my side either as I’m 31

I do already have a son who is 14 and after having him I tried not to fall pregnant again, I didn’t go on the pill but was using the morning after pill and condoms and pull out method etc. now I’m with my husband I go through the stages of wanting another then not. We have never used protection and we have been together nearly 7 years and alls I’ve had is 2 miscarriages really far apart from each other and then for the past 4 years nothing has happened at all so I don’t know what’s going on!

Did your doctor say it’s possible to have normal LH and FSH but not ovulate? X
