First month of IVF - egg collection question

Hi,

So after two years of trying for number 2 and dh being diagnosed with low morphology we have finally moved to the decision to start IVF. I'll be on a short protocol, starting Norethisterone next week.

I have a question about ovulation and egg collection but haven't had chance to talk to anyone at the clinic yet.
Over the past two years I've used OPK's and have charted my BBT. I have a history of very quick LH surges followed by ovulation the same day. Now my concern is when I come round to using Ovitrelle to trigger, am I at high risk of ovulation before egg collection 36 hours later? I had a trigger shot end of last year on a Letrozole cycle and I'm sure I ovulated that same evening as I had my typical ovary cramps and I dried up immediately.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? X

No, you shouldn’t be. An artificial LH surge triggered by an HCG injection is different from a natural LH surge and the timing is much more precise and less variable. You’ll be taking an antagonist drug anyway which should prevent you from ovulating prematurely. Do mention it to your clinic though if you’re worried.

Hi there! Just finished my first IVF cycle. I had the exact same concern as I can often be waiting for ovulation and get the old 'blinking smiley faces' on the clearblue opks and then when I get a solid smiley indicating LH surge in 24 hours or so I end up getting ovulation pain only a few hours later. My medical team were not concerned and in the end I actually had a high proportion of immature eggs and am likely to require a double trigger next time. So no, doesn't seem to have any bearing! Best of luck to you x

Thank you @Eggbert83. That's really reassuring to hear 😊

Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? That's a really common symptom, but you shouldn't worry, that's why they give you the meds, so everything can be measured so it's different from natural ovulation.

Emmyanddreams · 09/02/2022 15:23

@IsabelHerna no I haven't. I assume with all the blood tests and internal scans I've had at the clinic before we moved onto IVF, it would have picked up whether or not I have PCOS?

Does your clinic do blood tests throughout stims?

I'm at risk of premature ovulation (which has been determined by the blood tests) and I ended up having to take 2 x cetrotide a day to stop the ovulation up until the trigger and also indometacin tablets which is to stop the follicle from rupturing. It worked one cycle but unfortunately on the next I managed to still ovulate from one ovary :( They got the egg from the other one though fortunately (I have DOR so only had 2 decent ones going in...)

I do agree that in general though, the medication they are giving should prevent this and my position is very exceptional.

No harm in mentioning it all to the clinic though. Unfortunately I don't think there is a lot they can do between trigger and EC to stop ovulation as you shouldnt be taking the cetrotide (or similar) at this point.. they can control it UP TO the trigger...

Hi all

I hope it's okay to be a late joiner to this thread. I am on my first ivf cycle. Had FET today, 4AB ab and 4B bc. I'm not sure what this means tbh! The ivf lingo has been really challenging to get a hold of. Has anyone else had ET today/yesterday? OTD is 27 Feb for me, but I know that I'll not be able to hold out until then. What's the earliest you might get a BFP?

Sending good vibes to all!

Hi @W1ngingit I haven't done a transfer yet as my hormone levels went a mad so I was advised to freeze and wait.

There's a very active thread going with lots of people who've had recent transfers if you search for ivf/fet Jan Feb march 2022. Can't figure out how to post the link to it, sorry!
