Unexplained infertility- IVF success at 40 plus?

Hi all, realise there will be many old threads like this one here but looking for some positive stories of those who have had successful IVF at 40 and above with unexplained infertility. Currently having my second round of IVF after the first cycle failed last summer and finding it quite tough mentally.

Just turned 40 and other than the lack of a pregnancy and my age, nothing else appears to be an issue based on the tests we’ve had so far. Any success stories that you can share would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, I’m 41 & currently 17 weeks pregnant after a successful 2nd cycle of ivf/icsi

Sultanafan · 30/01/2022 17:52

Thank you for responding @Siaberry123 and congratulations to you. Great to hear! Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy. If you happen to be in London do you mind sharing which clinic you used?

Well it’s outside of London, this round was with New Life fertility clinic in Surrey.

I did have a round at HSFC prior to that who were good & they were based in Harley Street however they really pushed us to do PGTA testing which was an extra expense

New Life was better for us as no paying for parking or congestion charges 😂

Siaberry123 · 30/01/2022 18:08

O & sorry I forgot to say thanks 😊 I still can’t believe it! Good luck with your round x

I’m 41 & currently 16 weeks pregnant after our third round (2 x standard IVF and then ICSI for the final round). AMH was ~8 before starting and it was also unexplained infertility. We weren't given very good odds and I'd pretty much already given up on it working and started researching donor egg IVF. In fact I still can't quite get by anxiety that something will go wrong but everything is looking good so far Smile

We are with Cambridge IVF which actually doesn't have very good reviews but it's by far the most convenient for us and reasonably priced compared to some.

Good luck OP, I hope you also have success! I found it really tough too but don't give up hope yet.

I'm 42 and had a baby 9 weeks ago, my second IVF baby. We were with CRGH in London.

Justawannabemam · 31/01/2022 20:15

Hey there.

I'm 41 in August currently going through 2nd round of ICSI. Injecting stims for another 4 days before final scan. Hoping egg collection next Monday had 7 foliciles today which I'm pleased about as on our 1st round we only had 4 on EC Day.

Love reading these stories . It gives me hope thanks ladies . And good luck @Sultanafan

I'm 42 1st round of IVF ICSi.
My AMH was 7 which apparently is normal for my age.
Had 9 follicles, on egg collection we got 8 eggs and 7 fertilised.
Only 5 made it to day 3 and on day 5 I had 2 embryos transferred. They gave the other 3 another day and we where lucky to have to 2 suitable for freezing.
Now I'm just waiting to test which will be on Friday 🤞
This is the hardest day by far.

Justawannabemam · 01/02/2022 05:32

@pixie79 amazing news . Fingers crossed for you . Are you tempted to test early?

Pixie79 · 01/02/2022 12:37

Thank you.

Well yes me being me I tested on Sunday morning and got a positive line.
I called the clinic on Monday morning, they said the reason they ask you to wait 11 days after transfer is because the trigger shot contains HCG. This is the same hormone for the test.
It can give off false positives so at the moment I'm half excited but obviously trying to prepare myself just in case it's not good news.

Justawannabemam · 01/02/2022 13:19

@Pixie79 I was the same x only a couple more days

Pixie79 · 01/02/2022 14:55

@Justawannabemam
It's really hard not to and to wait.

Are you having 1 or 2 embryos transferred?

Justawannabemam · 01/02/2022 15:04

@pixie79
Have no idea yet until after egg collection

firefly37 · 02/02/2022 13:54

Hi @Pixie79
I really hope things have worked out for you!
May I ask if you took any supplements prior to your egg retrieval as you had good results and what protocol were you on?
I am almost 42 and trying for IVF baby number 3! We were really lucky when I was 36 and 39 to have been successful on long protocols. However, our third attempt (short protocol) was cancelled in December as I failed to respond which was a shock. We are just about to start a "flare" protocol. My AMH is 5pmol.
Thanks x

Pixie79 · 02/02/2022 14:58

Hi* @firefly37*

I tested again this morning and still positive, 🤞
I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant but still waiting until Friday. I know that sounds silly but the clinic put doubt in my mind.

The only supplements I've been taking are pregnacare for just over a year now.
I was also on long protocol, dose was 375 iu overleap. Is that similar to what you where on?

Fingers crossed you'll get your 3rd successful round.

It's so stressful and I hate the fact that because of age percentages are reduced.
We where told I probably wouldn't have anything to freeze so we where so happy we got 2.

X

firefly37 · 03/02/2022 08:24

@Pixie79 ... thank you for reply. Its sounding really promising for you! Amazing! My long protocols were using Buserelin and 225 Gonal F and then Buserelin and 350 Menopur. My short cycle that failed was 350 Pergoveris only ... my flare starting soon will be Decapeptyl 0.1 for the flare and then Pergoveris 350! My clinic don't think a long protocol will be suitable for me anymore mainly as my FSH hit 15 last May ... I take a load of supplements and luckily my FSH has been lower since (6.6 and then 9.2). Ive been taking Proceive, DHEA, CoQ10 etc to try and improve my eggs if we ever actually get any out!

Siaberry123 · 06/02/2022 10:08

Congratulations pixie79!

@firefly37 I was told to make sure I had plenty of antioxidants- same for my husband to improve his dna fragmentation
So I added an açai berry supplement, along with cq10. good luck!

Love this thread. I realise it's old.... but so am I hahah well, I literally just turned 44. I have concieved naturally aged 40 and been trying a year. I have low amh and travelled the country for a clinic and hospital who would take me on. I have a rare heart condition so many wouldn't have me. Its been brutal and expensive. I sit here, a million miles away from home on my own in a big hotel awaiting scan day 10 after menopur etc.... fingers crossed
First cycle. Scary. But.. positive xx

Hi - I was under 40 (38) but had a very low AMH of 1.6 with very low chance of getting pregnant. We actually caught first cycle with Care Manchester. x
