Link between E2/Oestrogen levels and eggs collected?

I believe I have read somewhere a while ago that your e2 or oestrogen blood levels tally with the amount of eggs collected at egg collection. I had it in my head it was something like 400pmol of oestrogen = 1 egg, but having now had one cycle where I collected 3 eggs (only 2 mature) and my oestrogen being around 3000pmol leading up to the EC, I am now wondering if it is something like 1000pmol per egg?

Does anyone else have any experience/figures they can add to this?

I am in the process of another egg freezing cycle now and it would be nice to have an idea of how many eggs I may get as of course not all follicles will have eggs in etc.. and I have DOR so every egg counts!

I will of course keep note of my bloods and eggs collected (touch wood) but I wondered if anyone else has done this or indeed might think about doing this too and we could see if there is a link?

TIA

Obviously I mean if you are at a clinic where they take blood results regularly and up to EC - so the last blood test before EC would be relevant I think?

Mine was 3010 pmol on 24 Nov and EC on 26 Nov had 3 eggs, only 2 mature. It was actually 3620pmol on 23 Nov so perhaps the drop was when something happened to the other follicle and the egg stopped growing/was faulty etc..

It was my understanding it's much lower than that - more like 200 per mature egg - I've had cycles stopped before where estrogen was much higher (or lower) than the numbers of follicles seen on the scan should have indicated

Hmm.. I did just have a search after posting this and someone else had posted a thread a while back saying they were told by their consultant 750-1000pmol per mature egg so I think it sounds about right?

My oestrogen level was 262pmol earlier in this cycle when I had nothing but a few tiny follicles of less than 6mm growing too so I don't think it can be as low as that.. perhaps I ought to ask my consultant actually when they call later!

@Rosiestraws last week my dr said to me they expect to collect 1egg for every 1000of estrogen.

Porridgeislife · 25/01/2022 20:32

My consultant also said they expect one egg per 1,000pmol of estrogen.

Thank you for the further replies. Did this end up tallying up with the number of eggs you received in the end?

Hey @Rosiestraws I also found my levels were around 1000pmol per egg too. My first round isn't levels were around 8000 and I got 8 mature eggs

Agapanthus13 · 26/01/2022 11:29

@Rosiestraws my levels were 5000 and I got 7 eggs.

thanks for the further replies - sounds about right then.

sadly my oestrogen has dropped from 2736 to 2287 so I'm thinking that only seems likely for 2 eggs - which is in line with the scans - one follicles on each ovary that are the right size to trigger and a couple of smaller ones. I had hoped the smaller ones might contain eggs that would be big enough in the end but seems unlikely.. they also have a concern that my right ovary is difficult to access so maybe it'll only be 1 egg (or none :( ) but i'll report back so we can see if the oestrogen level tracking this is relevant! I guess there's always a chance they'll grow a bit more (EC on friday..)

@Rosiestraws this journey is so tough! Like I said, I got more eggs than the expected with my levels, so not always an accurate prediction!. And as everyone always drums home, it only takes 1egg!! Wishing you all the best for EC day, that’s exciting.
