Where to buy DHEA

Can anyone help with where to buy DHEA. I have prescription from my Dr and have tried a few different pharmacies including the fertility medication centre online but no one can get it. I've seen a few websites online but I'm not sure if they are safe/reliable. Thanks

It's not licensed in the U.K. unless under specific certain circumstances and not generally proscribed in the U.K. for infertility - you generally have to buy it in from America but the delivery time can be several weeks

Have you had your testosterone levels checked?

try9ng · 19/01/2022 18:32

Ah ok that explains it. Yea I had levels checked and Dr said I should start it and COQ10. my clinic is in Ireland so perhaps it's licenced there

Hi @try9ng I have had this on prescription through ASDA pharmacy but it does take about 10 days to 2 weeks to arrive due to the shipping.

I have also bought it online but it's not the micronised version so best to get on prescription.

X

Thank you I managed to get a local pharmacy to order in. Can I ask did you experience facial hair growth and if so does it go away when you stop taking it. I know the important thing is getting pregnant but I really don't want to grow a beard 🙈

@try9ng ha! I definitely didn't grow facial hair at all! Although actually the head on my hair got a bit thicker which was great as it was quite thin before. You shouldn't get side effects unless your levels get too high but if you do then it will pass!

try9ng · 30/01/2022 14:16

Thanks for the reply Jane, we've been joking that I'm going to get a beard but relieved to hear you had no side effects. How did your transfer go?

@try9ng I did actually get a bit of acne (minor) but I figured that was a good sign as I always used to have a few spots when I was younger!

I'm having a chemical pregnancy unfortunately. Bloody frustrating. This is a euploid embryo and we did every test. I know it happens but not sure what to do differently for the next one (and last one) x

try9ng · 30/01/2022 14:53

Awh I'm so sorry to hear that Jane, it's so hard when it doesn't work out. I hope your next one goes better, sometimes we can do everything right and it still doesn't work x

@try9ng I’m in Ireland. My consultant gave me a prescription for DHEA and it got filled normally at my local pharmacy. If it’s on prescription it shouldn’t be an issue. What clinic are you with and what was your testosterone? Mine were 0.1 so I had zero side effects as my levels were tiny. You should be getting monthly blood tests at the clinic to check your levels as if they go too high that can negatively impact egg quality. Levels should be between 1.5-2

try9ng · 31/01/2022 12:22

Hi Dochas1211 I'm with Sims in Dublin who are you with? I finally managed to get it although most pharmacies couldn't order for me it was 73 I've seen it cheaper online but afraid in case its dodgy. My testosterone was 1.2 so not overly low need to book a test in 3 weeks

That’s good you are with Sims. I was with them when I initially went on DHeA and they were really good about monitoring it properly (I moved to Lister in London then). Yours isn’t too low so you will need to keep a close eye - it took 3 months for mine to get to a normal level.

Definitely good to get it through pharmacy not online. That’s crazy you had so much trouble finding it. I just gave in the prescription to my local place and didn’t think twice about it. Glad you got sorted.

try9ng · 31/01/2022 13:30

Can I ask why you moved from Sims? Our Dr is leaving so we have to pick a new one. We are in for our cycle at the end of March so won't have long in the DHEA and CoQ10 but worth trying. Thanks i thought everywhere would do it but tried a few other ones first and they couldn't get it

If you start it now you might be fine - mine was going up from 0 essentially. You have nearly 2 months as you can take it right up to egg collection.

I left SIMS (they were my 2nd clinic) as I bled early on a transfer before I moved there and I asked for a Progesterone blood test the day of transfer and they wouldn’t give it to me and I bled early again. At my follow up they said they’d do the exact same for another transfer which I wasn’t happy with. They seem to be losing a lot of consultants. I’ve heard people like Dr Marta. I had a consult with Dr Hanna before we moved clinic and she seemed quite good too.

try9ng · 31/01/2022 16:51

That's not very good, I find they don't really listen. I had very poor response first time so they have changed they meds and going to delay the cetrotide this time so hoping it helps. I think we are going to go with Dr Martha, it's worrying so many Dr's leaving. There is only 3 now so not a lot of choice. Do you find your new clinic better?

Dochas1211 · 31/01/2022 17:00

Well my advice is don’t be afraid to move clinic if you are not happy with them. I have heard good things about Dr Marta so hopefully she will learn from your previous round. Lister are my 3rd clinic and yes they are the best by far. They are around €1,000 more expensive than in Ireland though plus cost of flights and hotel.

try9ng · 31/01/2022 17:46

We had paid for a multi cycle option through access Fertility so will try with them again, hopefully better result this time. Good luck with your next cycle, when do you start again

OP posts:
Dochas1211 · 31/01/2022 17:52

Yes the first round is often a trial run really. As long as they learn from it and adjust your protocol. If I hadn’t been able to move re multi cycle I would’ve just kicked up a fuss and gotten the progesterone test I wanted for the next transfer but as I had the option to move I decided to just go. So I guess kick up a fuss if after this cycle things don’t improve 😃 good luck with it!

I’m actually pregnant so fingers crossed all continues to go well and no more IVF for me for a while! It took a long time (years and multiple cycles) but we got there in the end 🤞

You can buy DHEA (10mg or 25mg) from that polish pharmacy in UK. These are manufactured in EU (Poland) according to the EU standards, so perhaps safer as you can buy them in normal pharmacies. They also sell melatonin if you need it.

Hope it helps

Hi @Dochas1211, I came across this post and that you are pregnant from Lister. Hope it all went well. Did you take DHEA and did Lister monitor you for this? I am afraid that it may mess up my cycle and not sure whether to take it or not. Any advise will be helpful.
