Low AMH and AFC

Has anyone gone onto conceive with a low AFC?

33 and TTC #1.

Have been told he can see 6 on one side and possibly 9 on the other and i should have a lot more. AMH is 19

Really worried, the dr said he'd expect both to be higher

Your numbers don't sound that bad? My AMH when I wasn't much older than you was 12.9 and similar AFC x

@bonetiredwithtwins ok thank you, the doctor just seemed really negative.

Were you able to conceive naturally (if you don't mind me asking)

Hi, I didn't have low AFC and don't know much about it. However, I did have high FSH levels and was told my egg quality may be poor or diminishing. I was told to consider IVF. Me and my partner still had hope. I started Acupuncture for my specific fertility concerns along with Pregnacare vitamins and 6 months later I became pregnant, my son is now 3 and I now have a 7 month old. Yet, I was told my chances of conceiving naturally were extremely low and I may approach the menopause early.
From my experience, I would say if you haven't already, look into Acupuncture, with a Certified Practitioner and have a balanced diet and start taking your vitamins :-)

15 is not low at all. Also sometimes it varies from month to month. When I started IVF I had an AFC of 10, but a year after my AFC got up to 15 and AMH increased too. I haven't conceived yet due to other reasons but AMH and AFC weren't one of them.

I did several times but I have a history of recurrent miscarriages and then lost both tubes to ectopics - I did have twins eventually by IVF though 😊

@bonetiredwithtwins I've only got one ovary so I think they are going to suggest IVF at our follow up. It's also so confusing.

@hello2022benice. Not sure what clinic and doctor you’re talking to but your amh is within normal ranges for your age. No idea why the doctor said he’d expect both to be higher! You’re figures are normal so please ignore him and maybe change doctors! 19 is a great amh and regardless amh does not indicate how fertile you are, many people conceive easily on much lower amh. I’m the same age and my amh was a bit lower than yours. My consultant was very happy with it and I got lots of eggs on EC (19). So please dont worry. Best of luck!

Below is a nice graph to see average amh.

One good ovary

@BlueSilver23 thank you.

This was an initial fertility investigation. He just seemed so negative. Perhaps because I have one good ovary. He also suggested I have scarring in my uterus although a hysteroscopy with another doctor said there wasn't.

I am slightly worried that he is trying to push me into IVF on reflection. The link you sent is really helpful, thank you. I might get a second opinion.

Perhaps change doctors. I hate them trying to blame the patient.

tulipsandsnow · 18/01/2022 21:53

I would think about changing doctors. Your levels are bang-on normal for published data, and if you are remotely worried he could just be pushing into IVF un-necessarily, might be worth going for a consult elsewhere and seeing the difference in reaction to your stats and general demeanour.

I had afc of 4! Amh was 5 years ago so must’ve been 2 or something and I have my baby on my chest right now after ivf last year In my 40s, so I wouldn’t be worried !
