Afternoon ladies, just had my results from the 21 day progesterone test and my levels were 11 to which the doctor said they should be 16... she wants to do the test again as she feels the date I had it done might of been incorrect .. should I be worried ? TIA

The day 21 progesterone test is misleading and relies on a 28 day cycle and ovulation on day 14. It needs to be 7 days past ovulation which may not be cycle day 21. When did you ovulate?

I agree these tests are always based on a typically ‘normal’ 28 day cycle.

@Crunchie30 have you considered using OPKs to see when u ovulate so you can get a more accurate 7 DPO progesterone test?

When I had mine done last year always between 7-11 on day 21 and was total should be over 30 to confirm ovulation has occurred.

Hope this helps xx

@YouBoggleMyMind @EmzieMurf1987

Afternoon ladies,

My cycles range from 25-27 days, so never a full 28 days as these tests are always best for which is why the doctor wants to do it again, due to also receiving ovulation pain and I've been referred to the surgical assessment unit on occasions with suspected appendicitis which turned out I had ovulation pain so she's not worrying as such and has told me not to worry!

I'm currently on cycle day 27 and no sign of period yet but as soon as it comes and goes, I'll start tracking ovulation and then I'll book my bloods.

It as to be 21 days after first day your period started doesn't it?

Thanks for the replies ladies xxx

No, it needs to be 7 days post ovulation, not 21 days from day 1. Defo track ovulation if you can, if you get a positive OPK, book your bloods for 7/8 days after it. Hopefully that should give you a accurate progesterone result. Good luck 🤞🏻

What sort of doctor are you currently seeing? Is this a gynaecologist or your GP?. If its the GP you need to be referred to a gynae at a subfertility unit.

Was the pain you were getting that bad that they suspected appendicitis?. What are your periods like generally in terms of pain, are they consistently painful. Ovulation pain as well should not be that painful either.

Progesterone is only part of the story as well and I would have a day 2 test done to see what your LH and FSH levels are like in comparison to each other. Chances are these could be awry too.

With a level of 11 ovulation would not have been confirmed that month, a level of 30 or over should be seen. OPKs can be hit and miss too; they are really not that good predictors of ovulation and work on two misleading principles; namely that there is one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is followed by ovulation. Both are not true.

The day 2 and day 21 tests are standard blood tests. If you do your day 21 a week or so later the level of progesterone may be increased but you also need an internal ultrasound scan done to see if an egg has actually left the ovary.

The blood needs to be drawn 7 days before AF to be accurate. I had mine done, wasn't tracking but thought I was about 7dpo...levels were 29...turned out I was only 4dpo as AF arrived 11 days later not 7 so had it been done 7dpo would of been higher. My gp said 29 indicated ovulation and not to worry

Hi all. New here. Mine came back at 21, but I certainly had ovulation symptoms and my cycles are pretty consistent . What can I do to boost progesterone levels ?
