COVID test

Hi, so I have to have a covid test before my egg collection. Does anyone know what happens if it comes back positive? They can't just refuse to take the eggs surely?

Depends on your clinic. Mine said it would be cancelled. They even said it would be cancelled if I was a close contact of someone with Covid although they wouldn't have had a way to know this without me telling them. In the end I got super paranoid and basically self-isolated for the 2 weeks before egg collection. I know this wouldn't be an option for everyone (I could WFH) and the isolation makes the whole thing harder but the thought of catching Covid was also causing me a lot of anxiety.

I would add that even if you can't self-isolate or don't want to there are plenty of things you can do to reduce the chance of testing positive like wearing a well fitting FPP2 or N95 mask whenever you are indoors with people outside your household.

@trrk omg that's insane. These tests can throw up a false positive. I'm waiting to here back from the clinic about it. Is it safe to not take the eggs? Would I get my my money back?! I'm more anxious about this than anything else. I could self isolate before hand but that wouldn't stop a false positive. I know the likelyhood is slim but still.

Yeah, my clinic was super strict about it and this was only a few months ago. Even a ping from the app would have been enough for cancellation (again I would have had to tell them). I never asked how much money I would get back but I guess each clinic has a different policy on that but you wouldn't get money back for the drugs.

False postive on a PCR test is actually extremely rare (it's a bit more common on a LFT but even still pretty rare) so I don't think you need to worry about that. The only exception is if you had Covid in the last 90 days and still have some detectible virus but my clinic also tested at the start of the cycle so would have known about that before taking the meds.

I've heard back from my clinic. They will cancel but will provide another egg collection for free. I will only have to pay for the meds. phew, feel a lot better now!
