I recently underwent EC two weeks ago for egg banking and I have another round coming up. I was on fostimon and meriofert. However I only ended up with less than 50% of my follicles providing mature eggs for freezing. I am relatively young (early thirties) and no known issues. I had 30 follicles but only 14 eggs to freeze out of those. While I am aware that this is not an insignificant amount of eggs and I’m very grateful to have those I would like to maximize the follicles I do have for next time to try and save having to have another round of stims etc as I really felt unwell on them, not to mention the expense! Having 30 follicles but 14 eggs feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity of all those follicles!
The issue seemed to be that I had the number of follicles there just not the maturity/size to provide a viable egg for freezing. Has anyone had a similar issue and found a protocol that maximised the follicles they had i.e. worked well in increasing size and maturity and number of eggs of the follicles they had?
I’m not really up to date with all the different drugs and what they do! My fostimon was increased slightly after the first few days and that seemed to really kick up the number follicles but I do wonder whether it wasn’t already too late for those follicles to provide a mature egg. I’m thinking about discussing another type of protocol with my consultant for this upcoming round and would be very grateful if people (there seems to be a wealth experience in here!) had experiences of what worked for them to share? Just so I can go in armed with a bit more information than I have currently!
