Only 4 follicles - should I cancel egg retrieval?

Hi all,

I'm 35 and going through embryo freezing and I have difficult decision to make.

The trigger injection is likely tomorrow but I only have 4 follicles greater than 16mm (a couple more between 11-15mm). The estrogen levels also indicate only 4/5 eggs. My AMH was good at 24 but my right ovary just isn't responding to the stims.

The clinic says I need to decide after my scan tomorrow whether I want to go ahead with egg retrieval or cancel and get a refund for the rest of the cycle (about £4k).

I know it only takes one but financially and physically do you think it's worth going through an egg retrieval process for just a few follicles? I think I will be devastated if I have to go through a tough recovery and end up with nothing.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

In my scans I only had two follicles above 16mm. The rest were 14mm and below, I ended up with 14 mature eggs at egg retrieval and I’m now pregnant...I know this is anecdotal but I was crying in the scans thinking I had no chance, but the scans weren’t the whole story by any means. Small follicles can still contain mature eggs and large follicles can contain no eggs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

That should say in my final scan - a day before trigger

In all the scans though there was on average a 6mm difference between the two dominant follicles and the rest

Don’t cancel go for egg collection! I’ve done 2 cycles and only 5 eggs collected each time, it’s quality not quantity
I have a beautiful girl now :) x
