Embryo fragmentation

Currently on day 3 following EC this week and update from embryologist wasn’t good, we have 3 embryos that are continuing to develop but are showing some fragmentation. The embryologist has advised that as they continue to develop they may rectify or they may not in which case day 5 transfer would be cancelled. She said that she was sharing this to let me know there is a possibility come day 5 we may not be able to have a transfer.
Just looking to understand if anyone has been in a similar situation and what your experience was? X

Hi, you must be feeling so anxious and stressed after that phone call. I had very similar, my day 3 update and all 6 embryos of mine, although dividing how they should be, were all fragmented. I remember the embryologist said it's just a matter of waiting and watching and that 'embryos are amazing things and can fix themselves'. She said that they can 'suck' away the fragmentation and luckily for me 2 of mine did exactly that and were good quality blastocysts by day 5. So there is deffinetly hope and all is not lost.

I remember that awful phone call and the wait until day 5 was horrendous, for me the worst part of the whole ivf process.

Good luck but do know that there absolutely is a good chance you'll have your transfer and maybe even 1 or 2 to freeze x

@dogmam thank you so much for sharing, it’s great to hear that it’s tough with it being so out of your control but thank you for your positivity x

We transferred on day 3 and our embryo also had fragmentation. Did they not offer you to transfer 2 of them that looks better on day 3 ? Your body has a better chance of correcting them than a laboratory environment.

I'm currently just over 9weeks pregnant with our day 3 embryo.

@Monday55 congratulations to you 😊 no they said that they wouldn’t be able to select the best 2 as they are all looking the same and so best to leave until day 5 x

Good luck to your little embryos! How are they coming along? Are you able to choose the best ones now?
