Help with my test results and processing this in plain English...

Hi

My husband and I have been referred for IVF but I am a bit confused because I think my test results are good (but I have a big fibroid which the doctor recommends is removed first). The doctor didn't think my husband's sperm results were good but nor did she think they were particularly bad.

I left the appointment thinking 'ok so we need IVF because of this massive fibroid', but it's since dawned on me that if that needs to be surgically removed before IVF, why do we still need IVF!?

I know that sounds ridiculously stupid but the appointment was rushed, it was a lot to take in, and now I think about it a bit more calmly I am a bit confused.

Here are my results:

FSH: 6
AFC (follicle count): 30 in total. 14R and 16L
AMH: 2.56 / 18.5 (if looking at it in pmol)
All other bloods normal apparently - can't remember what other tests they did...

Husband:
Bloods all normal
Semen number: 10 (apparently more than 15 is normal). So on lower side.
Semen moving: 22%. (apparently 30% is normal).
Morphology: good. 6% (apparently more than 4% is normal).

Are these results (ignoring the fibroid) that bad? I am 34 and husband is 32.

Is the fibroid enough to stop you getting pregnant? (Many aren't but need to be removed because they may cause issues during pregnancy.) If you've been trying a long time, and the doctor doesn't think your fibroid would likely prevent pregnancy, it could just be that she thinks you should be pregnant by now.

Hi thanks Holskey, it is distorting the shape of my uterus significantly so I think it is thought that it would prevent pregnancy as well as potentially causing miscarriage and premature birth. My understanding is that is definitely needs to come out for fertility reasons but you raise a good point.

@Dexy007 after my fibroid surgery the doctor didn't want me to wait too long before going for IVF because fibroids can regrow and then I'd need more surgery. We decided to give it 4 months then go to IVF. Currently 2dp5dt
