IVF- go ahead or wait for TSH to normalise?

Hi all!

During pre-IVF checks, I found out my TSH was 2.7, above the 2.5 guideline and have been on levothyroxine for a week. At the time of prescribing the consultant said that it shouldn't cause any delay as was only marginally over but asked that I have another test in 4 weeks to check.

I got a call from the treatment coordinator, there has been a cancellation and if I want to I can go ahead from the start of my next cycle (24 November). I will have only been on levothyroxine for three weeks at the point, and won't have had the blood test, so I am not sure whether I would be better to wait. If not this month, it will be January so not too long but I have a very busy time work wise in January so going ahead this month will mean I get a more relaxing TWW.

Obviously I will discuss this thoroughly with the clinic at my appointment today but really interested to hear what others would do in my scenario! Has anyone been through IVF with raised TSH?

My TSH was also slightly raised at 2.8 and levo brought it right down to around 1 ish about 3 weeks later. Sadly my first round wasn't successful but I don't think that was because of the TSH levels, rather a poor quality embryo.

I think you'll be fine to go ahead :)

@ohsheglows so sorry to hear about your first round not being successful and wishing you all the best for your next.

Thanks so much for your insights on how quickly levo brought it down, this is very encouraging.

Yes similar for me - Levothyroxine brought my TSH down from 3.54 to 1 in just 3 weeks so I would say go ahead with your cycle - good luck x

Wow this is such good news, thanks for sharing your experience too, @PositiveThinkerAlways

Hi I was in a similar position, TSH just above and put onto levothyroxine. It was within the range by the time I got my bloods checked 4 weeks later. Good luck x

Thank you all! I spoke to the clinic today and they were aligned too and said they are happy for it to go ahead later this month. 🥳

Yours is such a small number that it will be ok. Mine is uncontrolled in the 8+ mark and I have antibodies so need to sort it out asap to have any hope
