Trigger Shot

Hi - this is my first round of IVF and I’m due to take my trigger shot tonight. I’ll be taking Gonasin (or however you spell it) and when I had originally gone for my scan I was told I had to take 10 000 iu, however when the nurse called today, she said I should only take 5000 iu.

This is probably no big deal, but would anyone know why it would change? I forgot to ask and it feels like it’s not a question that would warrant a call.

@BAIL08 I'm afraid I don't know, but in the exact same position. My prescription this time included 2 x 5000 gonasi, so thought I'd be taking 10000 trigger. They emailed me the plan for taking trigger tonight and it's only 5000

This is my second round and I only did 5000 first round too, but that time I only ever had 5000 in my meds, so I thought they'd changed it deliberately this time

I'm not too worried though- I assume they just look at scans and decide what's best on the day. I think sometimes they go for 5000 only if you are potentially at risk of OHSS. My googling suggests both doses are just as effective

It's because they're trying to reduce your risk of OHSS. Gonasi increases oestrogen which must be getting higher in you than they would like. Nothing to worry about, I'm never allowed to take a gonasi trigger at all, I'm always swapped to Buserelin and it's not affected the maturity of the eggs collected
