Immature eggs

12 of my 13 eggs were immature. The hospital won't engage with me on this at all. Can anyone please tell me why this happens? Is it that the eggs weren't monitored effectively?

So sorry to hear this, hoping the mature egg does successfully fertilise and keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Is this your first cycle? Keep pestering the hosptial, others can correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is this can be to do with the protocol either not stimming for long enough or needing a higher dose for the trigger. However sometimes can also be issued with egg quality or pcos where you might release a higher percentage of immature eggs on particular protocols. Xx

Roo45 thanks so much for your kind reply, the single egg has fertislied but as I'm having to have Pgd the % is 10-20% of the embryo being healthy. We are waiting for the results. My feeling is that it is protocol, I don't have PCOS and I've been told my eggs are good. They just didn't leave them in long enough...xx

If you don't mind op, how long were you stimming?

VenusStarr · 02/11/2021 19:36

I'm sorry this happened ❤️ Do you have the sizes of your follicles at trigger? What was your protocol?

ohsheglows · 02/11/2021 19:51

I'm sorry to hear this @ditherwood. My feeling is that they didn't stim for long enough. Do you know the follicle size? Which trigger did you use? The trigger normally gives them a boost but they'd only really give it when the follicles are on the cusp of where they think there will be a mature egg

ditherwood · 04/11/2021 13:03

CycleGirl20 I don't mind at all, I was stimming for 8 days

•VenusStarr* thanks, I don't know the sizes of the follicles at triggers they didn't tell me. We've got a call with our consultant in Saturday after a lot of pleading at our end. I was on Meriofert/Fostimon then combined with Cetrotide, then Gonasi/Subracur trigger.

thank you ohsheglows we don't know the follicle size, they didn't tell us although I will be asking on the call on Saturday. We were given the Subracur/Gonasi trigger. I also think they just didn't let me stim for long enough : (

I'm a bit worried about this too. I'm now on 9 days of stims/Ovaleap but started on 6 days. My lead follicle (of many, high amh) was 11mm on day 6 so they gave me the extra 3 days. Plan is to collect on day 13 so hopefully I'll have larger follicles but 11mm lead is apparently small for day 6.

I hope you get something helpful out of the catch up. It does suck that that happened. You'd think they could check better

Scirocco · 04/11/2021 14:18

8 days seems quite short - I was concerned that I hadn't been left long enough and I took stims for 10/11 days. My guess would be that the eggs didn't get long enough on stims to reach maturity... Maybe ask what the rationale was for triggering and collecting so early? If, after speaking with the clinic, you feel there have been errors on their part, you could consider making a complaint and/or asking for additional funding - I don't know what your funding circumstances are, but IVF is expensive and it doesn't seem fair for you to be even more out of pocket due to a clinic error if that's what's happened.

I really hope your embryo makes it - keeping my fingers crossed for you.

•CycleGirl20 • I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, day 13 sounds good, lots of time for them to grow xx

Thank you Scirocco that's a good idea to ask for additional funding, we are NHS funded as we are PGD on top of everything else. xx

@ditherwood thanks. My collection has been pushed back to day 16. My lead follicle was about 15mm today and I had a lot of smaller ones so they wanted them to mature a bit more. It sounds like that should have been what happened with you too. I think asking them for funding or to cover another collection is a good suggestion. It sounds like they screwed up.

Hi @ditherwood I know this is an old thread but I wondered how you got on?
