FET trasfer in week 5 of my cycle ? Isn’t it too late ?

Basically I’m doing FET cycle this month and my trasfer is in week 5 after my period . How is this possible ! Should I let not be in week 3 ?
My FET cycle seems so different to everyone else !
So I started my period , then one week later I started estradiol patches to thicken my lining and I have to do thus for 3 weeks , which makes it 4 weeks so far and then I’ll have a scan to check lining and about a week later I’ll have trasfer which takes me to 5 weeks . Is this normal ! Thanks for any advice !

The time you're on estradiol for makes no difference, some people need to be on it for a few months to get their lining thick. It's the time on progesterone that is important as this has an impact on the reception window. I haven't heard of people not having a scan for a few weeks though, I start estradiol on the first day of my bleed and my clinic scan me around day 10 of the cycle.

@Gardenlady543 thanks ! Seems like you know a lot me than me Smile So why do you think I started my estradiol patches one week after my period and not on first day of period ? XxSmile

@ShareLove I don't know, I haven't heard of that protocol before, what clinic are you with? What dose of patches are you taking? Have you had issues with your lining before? Ever had a transfer before?

ShareLove · 30/10/2021 20:18

Hey ! I take 1 estradiol evorel patch 100mcg for 2 weeks , change every second day and then I take 2 x evorel 100 mcg patches for 1 week and change every second day again before scan . So 3 weeks worth of patches before scan . Iv never had lining issues . My fresh trasfer was cancelled due to OHSS so that’s why I’m doing FET . Smile I’m in East Yorkshire clinic .
Never had trasfer before .

@ShareLove
Well you're on a fairly low dose, so maybe your clinic has people on a low dose for longer. I haven't heard of it before though. You could have a chat with your clinic on Monday about it.

Maybe another patient from the clinic will come by and will know more about this protocol.

@Gardenlady543 aww thank you for your help though Smile I appreaciate it you trying to help me .. it’s just all so stressful and I just go with the flow . I often do what they say without having time to question them . X

@ShareLove I'm sure the protocol will be fine, sorry to hear about the OHSS by the way, that must have been stressful. Have you started your cycle yet? I'm CD3 of my 4th transfer.

Azahar8 · 30/10/2021 20:47

Hi @ShareLove, I also started estradiol on day 7 of my cycle. I had a baseline scan on day 2 but my lining was too thick so they wanted to wait for my period to finish and then on day 7 it was thin enough to start estradiol. Thie seems to be the standard at my clinic, so I'm sure it's fine :)

ShareLove · 30/10/2021 20:57

@Azahar8 heyy ! Thank for replying ! Ohh that sounds good Smile
I started my period but I didn’t get a baseline scan , they just told me to start patches 7 days after , I don’t know how they could know if they haven’t even checked my lining haha Grin

@Gardenlady543 and yes I have started my cycle , I’m on day 14 of my cycle , 2 more weeks of patches and then a scan to check lining ! Grin and hopefully if all is well then trasfer 5-7 days later !
Also to mention , I had an injection called zoladex one week before my period started to put me into menopause mode for a month for my FET cycle so I don’t ovulate this cycle . That’s what I was told . But today I feel like I am ovulating with the ovaries pain ect .this is the time I would normally ovulate anyways so I’m so confused and stressed out thinking maybe I have to cancel the cycle because I ovulated still even after the injection Sad xx but maybe my ovaries are trying to ovulate but the injection is still stopping it ? I don’t know Sad

@ShareLove totally normal. I had my period 1st October, patches week later for 3 weeks, scan this week and transfer is next taking me to week 5 x

ShareLove · 30/10/2021 21:00

@Gardenlady543 good luck with your trasfer lovely Flowers may I ask if any of your trasfer worked before this one as you had 3 already ? X was they all FETS ? X

@Bluemeadowbaby wow thank you for reassuring me 😍 I though I was the only one with this protocol as I heard that normally people start medicine on day 1 or 2 of their period and trasfer is in 3rd week , so I’m glad you told me that as i can relax a bit more now Smile
Can I ask why is there so many different protocols for the same end result HmmFlowers

@Bluemeadowbaby also can I ask , normally I have my period every 28 days , so if my trasfer is in 5 th week then will my period not come before that ? Do the estradiol patches stop it from starting ? X because my period would start on week 4 but transfer this week 5 xx

@ShareLove I guess it depends on the woman and her reason for needing treatment. For example, I have severe endometriosis and my protocol is to reduce the need for too much estrogen where necessary so I'm on a short protocol which only requires the patches, then 10mg of estrogen tablets to sustain the lining whilst using progesterone. I also needed an injection called prostap (also known as zoladex) to put my body into a menopausal state used for endometriosis and also to switch off hormones for them to be able to make my body do what they require it to do before transfer. Another lady I know also has endometriosis and having a FET cycle but she's needed to use injections alongside (can't remember the name of them) and a steroid for the extent of her condition. We're all different but we all get there in the end ☺️ I have had ivf twice before, my first cycle failed and I came on my period on the date my test date was - the progesterone acts as the second part of the luteal phase so for me given the timing (class transfer as ovulation) 2 weeks later it would either be a positive or negative result and period. But then having said that periods sometimes don't return until you stop all meds it just depends how your body reacts. The second time I felt my period was coming and never did which resulted in my little boy.
You'll have a scan the week before your transfer to check your lining is at a level they want it to be and then they'll instruct the progesterone pessaries so your period won't come don't worry.
I know it's hard and the not knowing and worrying isn't nice but trust the process x

@Bluemeadowbaby thank you sooo much for the info !! X
This is my first FET and iv never had trasfer before .
I don’t have any known problems with my fertility , or with my lining . All looks perfect so I’m confused why they give me zoladex injection .
I belive it’s so I don’t ovulate on FET cycle . I think thats the reason as I don’t have any other reason for it .
Awww soo nice that you had one successful trasfer with little boy! I hope I get that lucky as I don’t have any babies and I am 29 already Sad
My reason for ivf is recurrent early pregnancy loss . So might be egg quality … as the doctor says. But it’s hard to belive that at my age .. in my 20’s Hmm

Right know my problem is taht I felt ovulation pains today !! Do you think it’s possible I ovulated or about to ovulate ! Why did I feel the pain when I had the injection zoladex . I had the 3.6 mg one . Which lasts 28 days . XxFlowers

ShareLove · 30/10/2021 21:46

@Bluemeadowbaby I had the injection 3 weeks ago , one week before my period started .

OP posts:
Bluemeadowbaby · 30/10/2021 22:36

@ShareLove yea the zoladex is used to switch off hormones for ovulation. I have been having sharp pains near ovaries today but it isn't ovulation so please don't worry. Your clinic knows what they're doing. Don't worry about age...I was 29 when I fell with my little boy and had him on my 30th birthday 😉 I'm sorry to hear you've had a tough journey so far, keep strong and like I say just trust the process, they know what they're doing and all clinics work differently. I've never had a FET either so just going with what they say x

ShareLove · 30/10/2021 22:50

@Bluemeadowbaby thank you for you support and yes I will trust the process Smile
Yeah I have had 5 early pregnancy losses at 5-6 weeks naturally over the past 8 years so this is my first ivf jorney and hopefully it works , at least it’s trying something different and choosing good quality eggs , thanks for your support means a lot Flowers
