Grumpy rant: NHS care, Covid and foreign travel

Hi all, big rant before I make a complaint and want to make sure I’m not just being reactionary and emotional. Tell me AIBU…
I was supposed to have a hysteroscopy this morning to get a better look at a polyp and possibly remove it before we can start ICSI for male factor infertility. I’ve been waiting since late April for the appointment.
When I got there they asked the usual Covid questions, including have I travelled to europe in the last 10 days - to which the answer was yes. I’m fully vaccinated, been in a green list EU country (with much lower Covid rates than UK) than for work, got back Saturday, sent of my day 2 PCR and did a lateral flow (negative) so I didn’t kill anyone at hospital.
Long story short, they refused treatment due to Covid risk as I’ve been abroad within the last 10 days.
To say I’m frustrated is an understatement, I’ve checked my letters and the NHS trust website and there’s no mention of any foreign travel restrictions on treatment.
Anyone else had anything similar? Should I have know this before I turned up?
Fuck this process man, we’re 18months in with pre-diagnosed MFI and still not a whiff of starting treatment 😭
Rant over!

@BeachPeach, I am sorry about this! I have had my bit of frustration related to the start of the treatment, hysteroscopy etc. with the first clinic too so I can totally feel you.

I think it is unacceptable and if it was indeed the rule it would have been stated clearly on their website and/or communicated to you. Did they reschedule it for near term?

BeachPeach · 19/10/2021 13:45

Thanks @TheDutchess3 I’ve not managed to reschedule yet, need to call - really hoping it’s not another 6 month wait 😑

@BeachPeach Just to say, I agree with @TheDutchess3 that its completely unreasonable for them to expect you to comply with their rules around travel if they failed to communicate this in the first place!!

Lack of communication drives me demented. They should have communicated to you are requirements around covid in the appointment letter so you could make informed decisions.

No experience of this but agree it's very poor and extremely unfair! I think many of us have suffered annoying waiting times, but being turned away, and without good reason, must be awful. What a waste of an appointment too. I hope they reschedule soon.

This is very very frustrating @BeachPeach
Not quite the same but I needed a hysteroscopy and was told by the consultant that it would be within 3 months. Called the clinic a few months later to chase progress and was told they weren't doing them anymore due to Covid, hadn't been for a while and couldn't tell me when they would re-start. I ended up waiting 6 months, but I complained about lack of communication and they did bump me up the list to get an appointment as soon as they re-started. Definitely worth a complaint about lack of communication. Hope you get your appointment very soon.

That's so unfair! You did everything you were supposed to do! And now you have to wait for another appointment? Come on!
Sorry for ranting too, but I do believe that's unfair!
