IVF , What is ZOLADEX 3.6 mg? I have to inject this before FET transfer .

I’m having FET next month or so and I have to take ZOLADEX 3.6 mg, and then a week later my bleeding starts , my question is that what is it for ? Is it to stop ovulation for the cycle after that ? Is it part of down regulation ?

It’s down regulation. It switches off your pituitary gland & puts you in a menopausal state, so your lining will be very thin and the consultant can take control of your cycle for the FET.

@Porridgeislife thank you !!!!! does that mean that when my next cycle starts 4 weeks after taking the zoladex , that’s when I start preparing my uterus for FET ?
I’m not even sure if I bleed again after taking zoladex ? Do you know ?
The Info iv been given so far is
Take zoladex , then one week later my period will start and then 4 weeks later I’ll have a scan , I’m so confused ? Will I have another period before FET ?

No, you’ll go straight into the FET without another period. Zoladex stops your periods so that’s why you won’t get another bleed. Your lining will stays thin due because Zoladex stops your cycles and that’s all you need to start FET.

@Porridgeislife do you happen to know what the scan is 4 weeks later after iv started my period after zoladex ?
So I take zoladex
Around 7 days later I should start my period
And I have to ring up on the first day of period and then have scan 4 weeks later .
Is this to check the lining ? Xx

Yes the scan will be your “baseline scan”. It’s just a check of the lining and ovaries, and you’ll start your FET medication straightaway if that scan is fine.

@Porridgeislife you’ve been massive help thank you !!! I know I sound soo annoying because I don’t know any answers myself but do you know why the scan is in 4 weeks and not 2-3 weeks ?Why 4 weeks ? , what happens to my body in that 4 weeks time before scan ? Xxx

Usually when women are given Zoladex to downregulate, the consultant is aiming to decrease inflammation in their pelvis, which might otherwise cause problems with implantation. Waiting 4 weeks gives it a good chance to work. I’ve been on it for 3 months before a FET so it can be given for a long time.

@Porridgeislife hey , my nurse told me that she is giving me zoladex because it will shut down my ovaries and put me into menopause mode for a Month for my next cycle when I have my FET ..

Hi, I know this is an old post, but OP - I'm wondering when you received your period after the implant was put in? I had Zoladex put in 2 weeks today and still no period. It's also a 28 day one before FET. Thanks
