Hi there
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2/3 months ago. I had regular cycles up until I got pregnant in December last year (Clomid helped me get pregnant) but I had a MMC in Feb and cycles are all over the place since.
I had a 50 odd day long bleed over the summer and now I'm on cycle day 53 with no bleed in sight.
Anywho, a private gynaecologist prescribed me Metformin and I'm on my second month of it. I would say that I'm noticing for the first time this year twinges in my ovaries that feel like they are trying to work. I'll be having IVF soon though (DH also has sperm issues) so the Metformin was really to help regulate cycles and help with the weight gain this year.
I'm no medical expert at all but I can't see how if you've been diagnosed with PCOS taking Metformin could cause you any issues. Obviously common sense should prevail if you had a serious side effect to it!
I was prescribed the standard dose age for PCOS which is 500 mg daily with breakfast for one week, 2 x 500 mg daily with breakfast and dinner for the second week and then 3 x 500 mg with meals ongoing.
I would say that if you do decide to buy it online, be prepared to feel sick and have tummy troubles for the first month or so. I'm still having tummy issues and I'm on week 6 now. I've read that these should subside eventually and it's fairly common. The first few weeks on the lower dose were worse than now.
I was told that if I didn't notice a loss in weight gain/other symptoms etc after 3 months then I'm probably not responding to Metformin.
If you've any more questions, feel free to ask 😊
