Due to start injections in Oct - short protocol. Any hints or tips very welcome, particularly about diet before EC, thanks

Hi @Abi47 Best of luck. I did my first round of IVF aged 40 and had my daughter just before I turned 42.

The book everyone will tell you to follow is It Starts with an Egg. That will outline diet and supplements to take. I would recommend it - it's kind of the fertility diet bible.

However don't panic about not having started yet because I had only just started (so not had time to take effect) before my successful cycle. I think it is good but don't let it stress you either.

Best of luck xxx

Thanks, I will take a look, try to be sensible and not stress 🙂

@Abi47 great. Basic supplements you could be taking now are Vitamin D and E plus maybe b complex and c. Plus ideally folate rather than folic acid. Other supplements such as Ubiquinol (the expensive kind - Kaneka) and more specialist supplements are listed in the book!

Essentially the diet for egg quality is low/no carbs, no sugar, high protein, lots of fresh fruit and veg. Avoid toxins (plastic, processed food, cosmetics etc). It's a pain but once you get into the swing of it, it's ok!

Best of luck and as I said, promise not to start worrying that you haven't already started this!!!! It won't matter x

Actually sorry I should correct that. Lots of veg but fruit depends on the type as that is also sugar!! I'll shut up now and let you read the book !

Thanks so much x

Hi @Abi47 I'm 42 and had two collection rounds at 41 (decent egg numbers and blasts but no success yet so start my third round soon).

I didn't go on any special diet before my last rounds and not looking to for this one but generally, I think the typical idea of a healthy diet is good to aim for - fresh veg, protein, oily fish etc. There's also another thread 'Anyone doing IVF at 40+' or something along those lines if you want to join a bigger conversation there. Good luck!

I'll take a look at that thread too. It's the first time in my life ever that I've taken vitamins daily without forgetting! Hopefully that's a good start x
