Is this embryo drop off normal?

Had egg collection yesterday and 11 were collected. 9 of these were mature and ICSI was used. Had a call this morning and only 4 have fertilised. It just seems such a big drop off. A day 5 transfer has been booked for Monday but worried we won't have any. Also I don't get any more updates so I know I'm just going to be stressing loads now :(

That sounds pretty similar proportionately to the drop-off I had, also with ICSI. I remember I was really upset with it...

I had 6 mature eggs collected, 3 of which fertilised successfully with ICSI. 2 made it to day 5, but only 1 was suitable for transfer (the other wasn't able to be transferred or frozen).

I was convinced the cycle wouldn't work, but that one embryo gave us a BFP and we're in the second trimester now. Don't give up!

@jodesxx I had my egg collection yesterday too I had 19 collected and 6 have fertilised remember it only takes one good embryo ❤️ The nurse advised me they would call me on Saturday to confirm if the embryos make it to day 3 then I will be booked in for day 5 Monday transfer xx

They said they expect about 50% to fertilise but can't help but feel a little disappointed. It was frozen sperm as well so know the quality can be lower as well. I don't get an update on Saturday but they did said if I want to call I can.

We are hoping to transfer 2 so fingers crossed for Monday!

Aww @jodesxx I would call them on Saturday if you can as it should be day 3 by then same as me if you are up to it for an update. Good luck and baby dust to you please update once you have an update I would love to know how your doing especially as we are on the same time line xxx

@jodesxx I had 12 eggs collected and only 5 fertilised, I was devastated but in the end we got two really good blasts and one less good one. Keep the faith 💜

@Gensola thank you. I feel bad for being disappointed as 4 still fertilised but it's just the not knowing and lack of control over it all I hate!

I had 9 collected, only 5 were suitable for ICSI and 3 fertilised. We ended up with a day three transfer and 2 day six blasts in the freezer. I am 7+3 with that day 3 embryo! Good luck x

Yes i was told it’s normal I had 13 collected 10 mature five fertilised with icsi and I had 2 left but on transfer day only the one top grade embryo to transfer the other one didn’t make it to freeze sadly, that little embryo is now my nearly 1 year old daughter! Good luck X

Both my ivf cycle I got 18 egg 10 fertilised and only 1 each time good enough to put back none to freeze. I am now pregnant ogf the one surviving on second round . I was gutted but the clinic was right it only takes one xxxx

I've not had a call from the clinic so that means we have at least one for transfer!! I'm trying to work this morning and can't concentrate - only an hour to go!

Hi @jodesxx 😀I realise this post hasn’t been commented on in over 6 months, but just wondering how you got on? ❤️ I had my egg collection yesterday (out of 11 eggs only 7 were mature and 4 fertilised). Very similar to you and looking for some words of encouragement as feeling a bit disheartened by the number.

I had 9 eggs, 7 mature and only 3 fertilised with icsi. I ended up with 3 blastocysts though, 1 transferred on Monday and 2 frozen. Too early to say whether it’s worked but the embryologist rated my pregnancy chances at 60-70% so I’m very hopeful 🤞

Hi @2ndstreet thanks for your reply 😊. Your numbers are very similar to mine. The fact that the 3 that fertilised made it to blastocyst is great. Good luck with your transfer - those odds are really good 🤞. If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? Seeing as our numbers are so similar. Our clinic offer freeze all as standard so hopefully we will have some to freeze come Monday 🤞🤞xx

Thank you @2ndstreet this TTC malarky is such a minefield! I’m 30 and DH is 32- we started ttc May 2020. I know a lot of people say that they thought it would happen quite quickly when they started trying, but I’m one of the ones who is a constant worrier/ always thought I’d struggle. Which clinic are you with that opted for a fresh transfer? I kind of wish I was having one… the additional wait (if we get that far) just feels like added torture! xx

It’s strange how differently different clinics do things. Both clinics in my city seem to do fresh transfers unless they’re worried about ohss

@2ndstreet Very strange. I was low risk of OHSS and they said from the beginning it would be a freeze all. Are you doing any of the old wives tales to hopefully help implantation? I’ve already made a list in my phone for when the time (hopefully) comes. The things we do, eh? 😅xx

I’ve been drinking pomegranate juice and eating pineapple for the first 5 days. I’ve also been taking some time off work/working from home so I don’t get stressed. I’m on day 7 now and have had to get my husband to hide all the pregnancy tests. I’m not going to make it to day 14 but planning to hold out to day 10 which would make me 4 weeks pregnant so seems a safe day to test. 🤞
