Proof of ovulation

Hi, this may sound like a daft question..but is there a way of knowing for sure if an egg has been released during ovulation? I have normal periods and monitor my cycle like a madwoman with OPK’s. I get the LH surge and the all the other signs are there (EWCM etc) but I have a low AMH level and have completed one round of IVF where only 1 egg was retrieved. So..on a normal cycle how can I tell the difference between ovulation where an egg is released and ovulation where there is no egg released? Is that even a possibility?!! Sorry..my mind is racing after a failed IVF attempt and I’ve so many questions! Can anyone help?x

Hi @Eiremogra at home the only indication you can look for is a temperature rise, which isn't conclusive as accurate temperature readings are difficult to measure. I used the ovusense device which gave me more accurate readings.

A day 21 progesterone is your best bet. Which you can either organise through your Gp or you could pay privately through medichecks.

Thankyou for that @Gardenlady543. I’ve just been looking at temping and private progesterone testing. You read my mind! I think to reassure myself I’m going to get my progesterone levels checked again…this was all checked before my IVF treatment but I know it would make me feel better to know for certain. Would you recommend the ovosense? x

Hi @Eiremogra you put the ovusense in the vagina over night, so it's quite invasive but then if someone is used to wearing tampons it's not a big issue. I ended up having issues with the microflora in my uterus and I don't know if using this might have contributed so I probably wouldn't use it again, but that's because the whole microflora issues has been really stressful and I'm not doing lots of things others consider normal like using tampons, swimming or taking baths.

The ovusense measures the temperature every 5 minutes so you get accurate readings and a nice curve. I know others wear a Ava bracelet which is another option for multiple readings to create an average.

Thanks @Gardenlady543, I can see how this would give a really detailed reading but you’re right, it is very invasive! I don’t wear tampons either and would be very reluctant to commit to the ovusense. I haven’t heard of the Ava bracelet..I’ll look into it. Thankyou x

I have a friend like you @Eiremogra who doesn't use tampons and was reluctant to use the ovusense and she found the Ava bracelet useful. I find taking the daily temps quite stressful and having something that does it in the background will hopefully reduce that stress and give you accurate readings, so it seems worth the investment :)

I used to pay for ovulation tracking privately - involving a few scans over fertile period tracking a dominant follicle and then afterwards to confirm it had ruptured/released - still no absolute guarantee but it gave me some comfort

Eiremogra · 15/09/2021 15:14

@twinningatlife I think I would certainly find this helpful. I’ll have to do some research to find where I can source the same investigations privately. Was it very expensive?x

@Eiremogra
It can be £200 for a full tracking but I used to use ovulation tests and as my cycle was pretty regular only needed a couple of scans - I did it as lost a tube to an ectopic and wanted to know which side I ovulated on - if it was the tubeless side I know conception unlikely that month

It’s actually very difficult to find places who offer this service, I’ve spent the evening searching and nothing is very clear. I would absolutely be looking for something like this to confirm ovulation. During my IVF treatment my right ovary was not stimulated at all, no follicles grew. I’m not sure if this means that no follicles would ever grow from that side or if this was a once off. x
