Holiday during two week wait?

We are about to start a frozen embryo transfer cycle having done a freeze all cycle in August. It’s my first cycle and I’m an IVF newbie.

I spoke to the nurse yesterday and now have a rough idea of when things are likely to happen.

The problem is that the two week wait is very likely to coincide with a holiday we booked a while ago. It’s a relaxed UK- based self catering holiday for just the two of us. However, it’s a drive of around 5-6 hours from home. Part of me thinks it could be a nice distraction but I’m worried the drive will be tiring and will put the process at risk. We can cancel without any penalties at the moment.

What do you think?

I don't see anything wrong with you going, lots of people go on holiday in the 2 week wait, plus the holiday will be a good distraction.

Also people have transfers abroad and often take a long journey home right after.

So I would say go, I say this as someone who by the time of the next transfer would have been having IVF for a year, your whole life can't be put on hold during treatment, it will only make everything harder.

Hi, I've just had my first frozen transfer following my freeze all cycle. I'm in the tww now and have been busy each day, yesterday we done a four hour round trip just for a day out to keep busy. I think planning a trip away sounds perfect, and don't think the travel is anything to worry about. Good luck x

@dogmam and @Gardenlady543 thank you both for your comments! I was probably over thinking it as normal

People travel when they have just conceived and don’t know it if it’s not ivf
It’s fine just act normal (hard I know )

I’d go for it, as pp said, IVF disrupts your life enough, so if the holiday timing works out ok for the transfer day itself, then go and relax / enjoy yourself.

I would definitely go! I am going to have my IVF far away from my home and I asked both clinics I am considering the travel situation. Both of them reassured me it won't create any problems for me. Actually one of them suggested taking time and enjoy the sights while traveling and finding ways to relax and enjoy the time.

Go and have fun!

We were away for the whole of our two week wait and it was a great distraction so I’d go for it!
