Cramping before BFP?

Hey 😊

Did anyone have very period like cramping and/or back pain in the tww and go on to get a BFP?

I'm in that phase of waiting my FET outcome... 6dpt today. Looking for some insights, as I woke up with severe back pain and period cramps and was convinced it was starting and game over. Took a clear blue and it was negative. Appreciate tho that it's still early.

I'm wondering if the cramping might be my period trying to come through tho... And the progestrone pessaries are preventing it?

Appreciate any and all thoughts/ experiences 😊 xx

Hi OP , have everything crossed for you! I was obsessively googling symptoms and looking for threads like this. I had cramps and back pain after my FET, some of the cramps were that bad I had to take pain relief. Luckily my transfer was successful, I was on a lot of progesterone (pessaries and lubion) so not sure if they could be attributed to those. Best of luck again :)

Hey @MeAndZig thanks so much for your response 😊 Wow yes I can relate to needing pain relief! That's reassuring then if yours was a success, congratulations! I'm on 2 progestrone pessaries a day.. I've had 2 previous rounds of IVF and don't recall ever having these pains. Fingers crossed xx

Thank you - let’s hope this is third time lucky for you! Keep us posted if you can. I don’t think I tested until 12dp5dt . I had a fresh transfer and a FET. For both I kept a daily diary and logged all my symptoms. Was really useful to go back and read.

In all my pregnancies I got the worst period cramps ! In my first successful one I didn’t know I was pregnant ( those were the days) and I suffered very badly with af so I was taking codeine and all sorts for a week. Then I thought , where is it?? Dc is now 5 !

I also had period pain prior to my bfp and I only got a faint bfp 8dp5dt. You can't tell either way yet. Fingers crossed for you!

Hey ladies, thanks so much for your replies. Having quite a time today as I took a FRER this morning and got a faint line. Almost immediately afterwards I got pink discharge when I wiped. 😪 I've had period pains all day and on and off pink and brown discharge. This all happens every normal cycle for me on day 1, then period comes day 2.
So i think it might be a chemical. I guess it's not over until full AF comes. Not holding out much hope as the pains are quite bad xx

I had cramping from egg collection, through transfer, until way after my bfp, if that helps x

Hi @Rachae I know it's no consolation but I don't think you can tell either way as yet. Have you ever bled whilst still on progesterone before? It would usually hold it off. Pink and brown discharge can both be normal and still lead to a BFP.

I did have quite intense cramping on my third transfer but later on - day 9 & 10. I didn't test until day 10 and got a BFP then, but sadly it was a chemical and it turned negative five days later - but I still didn't get any bleeding until after I stopped progesterone.

This could be implantation bleeding, as progesterone wouldn't stop that. Unfortunately you are in that really horrible 'wait and see' stage, but I would not give up all hope quite yet. I think most clinics would only be concerned if bleeding turned heavy. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for that.. I think it's because my period has always come before OTD, its a bit like clockwork. Having said that.. I haven't had any more bleeding this afternoon. Total torture really and I appreciate your kind thoughts xx

Hi OP definitely could be implantation bleeding 🙏🏽I had a really big bleed at 5 weeks and was convinced it was over. It’s 50/50 they say so I really hope you’re ok. Will keep everything crossed for you . On another note, as my period started before OTD and as I have a short luteal phase , my consultant suggested I also take lubion twice a day, as well as the pessaries. That’s the cycle where I got pregnant. Could be coincidence but I always had a suspicion there was an issue with bleeding before OTD and having a 25 day cycle. Just in case that helps anyone else.

Ah torture for you, @Rachae Women like us can rarely just enjoy our BFPs! Hope the spotting doesn't worsen and your BFP progresses 🤞

No more pink discharge since this morning.. I've been for a few walks and chilled in my Pjs. The cramping has been constant throughout the day.. I'm not sure if it's normal to cramp literally every minute, like when others have said they've had cramping. I guess If no more discharge I'll have to test again tomorrow and see if the line gets darker xxx

I had cramping EXACTLY like the pain I got before my period. It continued after my BFP and even though it wasn't very painful, I wanted to take paracetamol just so I couldn't feel it, it was panicking me so much! I didn't have spotting though (that would have driven me mad!) but plenty of women do have it and go on to have a baby so hopefully you're one of them.

Forgot to add if you use the pessaries vaginally that’s can also cause irritation. I was also on 3 a day in my first cycle . Hope you’re resting x

Well.. Still cramping and back pain. No more spotting at all.. Took another FRER this morning and the faint line is identical to the one yesterday. No idea how to read this 🙈 I'm 9dp5dt tomorrow. I guess I'm thinking the line needs to get darker daily xz

That sounds really positive!! It might not get darker everyday at this stage. Really good news about no more spotting, I’m excited for you. I’m sure the tests I took at 12dp5dt and a few days later were pretty much identical too. Not even majorly dark. I would just say if you can use the back door for your pessaries for now and rest. Thanks for the update.

Hey ladies, just a quick update from me! It's my OTD today and the sensitive test was negative sadly. So the clinics asked me to discontinue medication and hopefully a period will come soon. Thanks so much for all of your support xx
