Egg retrieval today- advice

Hi everyone... I had my egg retrieval today, they managed to get 21 eggs, half of which they said they will do icsi on, the other normal ivf. Does anyone know what is best? I'm at risk of having my fresh cycle cancelled but still feel lucky with this egg amount, will find out tomorrow how many fertilise! Any help would be great:)

ICSI is used to help fertilisation, usually if the sperm sample isn’t optimum. If there are no issues with the sperm then IVF is considered enough.

23 is a great number, I had 20 collected and ended up with 4x 5 day blasts. I did a freeze all and started the FET process about 6 weeks later. That little blast is now sleeping soundly in his cot and the rest are in the freezer. I hope you receive a good call tomorrow, I found this wait the hardest part of the process.

It's actually a good idea to do 50/50 if you have good egg numbers as some women's egg just don't take to ICSI x

@Betsyboo87 ah wow that is amazing! I've just been told 12 fertilised, 7 with icsi and 5 with normal so in total we have 12 fertilised eggs! I'm feeling quite breathless today, and my abdomin seems swollen and is really painful, did you have this too?

@twinningatlife yes I thought it was probably a good idea, im really pleased we had some fertilise with normal ivf too!

My clinic said there were slightly better pregnancy outcomes with ivf , so they didn’t do icsi for me. Perhaps ask about that as you choose which to transfer first

That’s a great fertilisation number. I felt a little sore the next day but other than that I was fine. Maybe have a chat with your clinic if you’re feeling uncomfortable or in pain.

@Keeptrying12 that's great news about the embryos. Your symptoms could be OHSS, as that causes shortness of breath and swelling. Please call your clinic ASAP to discuss the symptom so they can keep an eye on you.

If there are deteriorations in your symptoms then seek urgent medical help.

@Keeptrying12
That's great news re your fertilisation! I had 23 collected on Friday and awaiting for the update on how many blasts tomorrow. Freeze all cycle. Not sure how FET actually works though.

I didn't share your symptoms and was told that if I had pain that couldn't be controlled by paracetamol to go to the hospital. They also gave my other half a sheet that had information about the procedure on to hand in at hospital. Might be worth a visit if you are still showing symptoms. Hope you're ok!
