Low estrogen

I have been struggling to conceive but recently went to the GP regarding some concerns over terrible night sweats (I am 27) and light periods. My results came back with very low levels of estrogen. They want the test re done just to make sure it’s accurate but she said given your symptoms hot flushes, night sweats, low libido ect it’s probably accurate. Does anyone know what this means and how it can effect fertility? My LH and FSH seemed ok so I’m confused!
Thanks in advance

Hi @Crazydaisy21 do you have the results of the blood tests you've had done and the cycle day of each?

I've just picked this random graph off the internet that shows how oestrogen levels change during a mensural cycle. This would be dependent on having regular cycles, are you ovulating and having regular cycles?

You can see that oestrogen is low when your period starts, it then rises for a few days, then a person gets the LH surge and releases an egg. Then it drops and the cycle starts again.

Is your gp looking into other diagnoses as well?

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
The blood results were as followed, tested on day 3 of my period. (they didn’t test my AMH)
FSH 6.3
LH 7.3
Estrogen 74 (should be low but according to the GP not that low)

So I’m going back next week to have it repeated and she wants to have a chat with me about my symptoms. She was very interested in my light periods and when I started them. I was 14. She said this is late but I didn’t feel like I had started very late compared to my friends although we never really spoke about it!

@Crazydaisy21 the LH and FSH are exactly where they need to be. The normal range for estradiol on day 5 is 70-510 pool/L (day 5). I had mine checked on day 3 and it was 140 and nobody was worried. I don't know why your Gp is checking this anyway, the only reason I had it done was because it went 10 times higher than it should have in my frozen transfer cycle so we were just checking that it had come down.

Starting your periods at age 14 is absolutely normal, it's when I started mine too. And while I remember being one of the last girls to start. There are people who don't start their periods until they're 16-17. So 14 is no problem at all.

As for light periods, I've had this too, it could indicate a thin uterus lining, it's good to have a lining over 7-8mm for implantation to happen. The only way to find out if your lining is thin would be to have an ultrasound around the time of ovulation.

Obviously you're having symptoms that need to be investigated, I'm not sure that this oestrogen in its own means anything though.

That was supposed to say pmol/L

Thank you @Gardenlady543 I really appreciate your thoughts on this. Very much doubt I’m going to get my bloods repeated Wednesday now anyways with the blood tube shortage in the UK Hmm. I am in no way questioning this woman’s skills as a doctor but she did have me quite concerned. I feel much better now :-)
