Glasgow Royal Fertility Clinic

Morning,

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with the Glasgow Royal Fertility Clinic?

I have been asked to get my BMI to under 35 to be accepted and I'm frustratingly close.(currently 35.1)

I emailed them a week ago to see if we can start the process given I'm in the ball park. But they haven't responded.

I will probably call them but just wondered if anyone else has had a slow response from them or if they were able to start treatment with a bmi so close to the requirement?

Am I right in thinking that this is the self-funded equivalent of the GRI's ACS? If so, I'd give them a call - I found that they could take a while to respond as they're really busy (based in a major hospital and staff can be required to cover elsewhere).

I think it is. I'm self funding my ivf cos I cannot get my bmi to NHS requirements no matter how hard I try.

I'll give them a wee call just to see what the options are.

Thanks for responding 😊

Hi @TTCforever2021 I hope you don’t mind me asking but how did you get on chasing the clinic regards being so close to the required BMI.
My partner and I are likely to need IVF and my BMI is way above the NHS limit. I am working to get it to 35 with a view to self funding as I feel I will never get to 29.9 in time as I am already 37yo.
Good luck with you IVF journey.

TTCforever2021 · 29/08/2021 20:58

@Positivity2019 i haven't called them yet. I'm scared I'm wasting their time. But I'm hoping to call at the end of the week. Your BMI just needs to be under 35. Mine is at 35.1 or 35.4 depending what day of the week it is 🙈 so frustrating though.

The GCRM allow bmi upto 40 but I found them quite expensive in comparison to the the Glasgow fertility clinic.

Sorry if that's not much help.

@TTCforever2021 no worries, that’s been very helpful so thanks. I’m just starting out to look into it all and I’m looking at abroad too. Hopefully you can move forward when you call at the end of the week.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 30/08/2021 22:25

I'm not yet pursuing IVF, just testing, but I went with GCRM because the Royal were awful at replying to anything. Left email and messages on telephone answer machine without any response

Hi @Positivity2019 & @TTCforever2021
Do you both still use Mumsnet?
I'm looking for advice I'm looking into self funded testing then hopefully treatment
How have you both got on?
I got bad reviews for the GCRM but I have spoke to Glasgow royal fertility and they gave a 4/6 week wait for testing
Just wondering which would be best? The reviews kind of scared me for GCRM x

Positivity2019 · 21/05/2022 21:52

@RMS0209 Hiya, at the moment I’ve not made any headway with anything as far as pursuing IVF. It’s taking all I have to focus on weight loss and since IVF is not an option until I’ve lost the weight that is my focus. I will say that we are looking to go abroad for IVF as it is cheaper. There is a British company called My IVF Journey who might be of interest if you wanted to learn a little more about it.

RMS0209 · 21/05/2022 22:51

Hiya @Positivity2019, thanks sooo much for getting back to me!
Sending you lots of luck with the weight loss, you got this! 💪
Oh really? I will have a look.
I'm actually 3hrs away from Glasgow but I read that both clinics are the best in Scotland but I just have the decision of choosing which one to go with...
I can get my first lot of tests on 2nd June with GCRM and if I choose to go with GRFI it's a 4/6 week waiting list for an app.
Off to go look at this company you have told me about. X

Hi @RMS0209 just wondering how you got on with GCRM? Thinking of going there however the reviews are worrying?
Thanks x

RMS0209 · 02/02/2023 15:23

@21RsMama Hi! :) You have asked on the wrong day... today I am at my witts end with them. I had no complaints until recently, the testing process went smooth along with egg collection (I have 14 embryos safely in the freezer) since November (the joys of long cycles) I have been fighting for my FET. I feel very let down the last few days but until then I had 0 complaints. Today I have phoned and put a message on my portal, which hasn't been replied too yet. I also spoke to a lovely nurse on Tuesday, I spoke to another nurse on Wednesday who told me different information and told me she would update the portal with an answer... I am still waiting now.
Sorry it wasnt better news! But as I say up until recently I had 0 complaints. I can try answer any questions you have. x

Hi there, did anyone get any joy with Glasgow Royal or GCRM? I'm 39 and running out of time, not sure which clinic to progress now my BMI is finally under 35
