Success even with endometrial polyp?

I’m doing medicated monitored cycles to treat luteal phase defect. My doctor recommended six cycles before IVF. I’m currently in the middle of cycle number four.

I’ve had a polyp for the past three cycles. It’s just under a centimetre. It seemingly appeared overnight, although it disappeared at one scan - my doctor scans me around cd11, however he scanned me at cd6 last cycle and the polyp had gone. But then by the time he scanned me on day 11 it had come back. He said it must grow in response to stimulation. It’s remained around the same size.

He said if it’s still there next time he scans me then he’ll look at taking it out. I’m glad we have a plan to take it out but I’m not likely to see him until October. I’m on holiday in September and he’s letting me take letrozole and trigger and monitor my own cycles with OPKs. I’m glad we still have a chance in September, but I just feel like while I still have this polyp I stand no chance whatsoever.

All I can find online is stories about doctors insisting polyps be removed before any treatment. I’m trying to have faith my doctor knows what he’s doing, he’s got way more experience than I do obviously, but I’d just like to hear some positive stories of people conceiving successfully with a polyp so I have some hope. Does anyone have any?!

Hi @kennetrose

Hope things turned out alright for you?

I am 38, ttc for a first child and I've just had a scan on which they found a medium size polyp.

It seems that having polyps is more common in your mid 40s but after all this is in line with my low AFC and high FSH which suggest early menopause is around the corner for me.

Hopefully you'll have some positive experience you might want to share :)

Nope 😅 I'm in my first FET cycle and transferring on Monday. I had the polyp removed last year and was told it wasn't the reason I wasn't conceiving however. Although I still don't know what is.

I was 33 when I had it.

I was told I had a poylp they were to remove it but said there is nothing to remove.
my partner is having his SA tomorrow

I wanted to know if they are going to check me further or just start making embryos???

kennetrose · 27/04/2022 10:02

Depends if you're planning a fresh transfer or not, I guess. If you start the ER cycle and they find polyps in your scans then you may just do a freeze all cycle, sort out whatever is in your uterus, and then transfer later on. They won't want to transfer if you have polyps, but polyps won't affect the creation of embryos.

Well if they can’t see the polyp would they not examine me before implanting embryos?

Good morning ladies :)

How did the transfer go@kennetrose ?

@omg! That's great! Congratulations 🎊👏😄how long are you? How is it going?
If you don't my mind me asking, could you give me some specifics like, your FSH level, follicle count, how many eggs were collected and how many fertilised, which clinic you are at and what type of IVF you are doing and why? And how old you are
Sorry for the hundred questions but I'd really appreciate it if you could share as I'm going through this now too xx

Thank you! And sure! I turned 34 in April, was 33 at time of ER cycle in February. AMH was 23.4, AFC was 20, had fifteen follicles grow and collected 14 eggs, 13 mature, 9 fertilised, 5 embryos made it to day 5. FSH I think was around 6.

I did a short antagonist protocol, no birth control or oestrogen priming. Stimmed for 13 days with Fostimon then Meriofert and Fyremadel. Dual trigger of suprecur and Gonasi. Took the next cycle off then had an entirely medicated FET cycle. Started with oestrogen pills and patches then added progesterone - 400mg pessaries twice a day and Lubion injections twice a day. Night of transfer I did a trigger shot of Gonasi and started clexane from transfer until positive test. I did my cycle privately so I got more progesterone than you would on the NHS, including the two forms of progesterone, and the clexane and trigger post transfer are unusual too.

I was with Dr Gudi at Fertility Plus. 100% recommend him. He is creative and a problem solver but doesn’t push you into doing things for the sake of it.
