Tips for a smooth transfer?

Hopefully will be doing ET tomorrow or Tuesday 🥰

Just wondered if anyone had any tips on how to make it go as smoothly as possible? A little nervous as struggle with speculums sometimes.

I know it's meant to just be like a longer smear test?

@2021babyhope Don’t worry too much, you’ll get through it. I find smears uncomfortable too and found the ET uncomfortable when the speculum was inserted and it is kept there for longer, but it’s still a fairly quick process. You’ll have the scan monitor next to you and they’ll show you where the embryo is being placed, so just focus on that and try to breathe through any tension you’re feeling (it is more tension through nerves than actual pain).

Just think of everything you’ve been through to get to this stage - the ET is nothing in comparison really and will hopefully be the best part if you get a positive! Good luck Smile

You can ask to be put under GA - I did that last transfer.

I find the hardest part of transfer trying to get the amount of water you drink right. Haven’t got the magic answer to that but it’s prob best to drink a bit more as you can empty a bit out if necessary! It usually is quite quick and painless so try not to worry. Best of luck! Can feel quite emotional too!

I don’t remember it being as bad as a smear. Think it might feel less sore than that.

IslandStars · 06/08/2021 21:01

Oh yeah I meant to say, I felt no pain or soreness afterwards. For most people, ETs are no problem at all.

In terms of water, I emptied my bladder an hour before I entered the clinic (so about 1.5 hours before procedure), then drank just under 600ml, which worked fine.

I find speculums really painful for some reason even though I generally have a high pain tolerance for most things (possibly it's not helped by a retroverted uterus?).

My top tips - warn the staff in advance that you find them painful and might not be able to help making noise (I think I scared the staff the first time when I couldnt help squealing!), take paracetamol an hour or so beforehand, and you can also try placing your hands under your bum first to tilt your pelvis slightly before they put the speculum in to see if that makes a difference for you.

The good thing about having to have a full bladder for ET means you are distracted (slightly) from the speculum discomfort by the discomfort of that. And remember it will all be worth it!

Hi I'm really worried about my ET and have requested for sedation same as EC which doctor said was fine to do if I was ok to have if that anxious about it. I'm hoping to have mine next Wednesday.

Thanks everyone 😊 I might email my clinic and ask what the options are.

I can usually get through a smear test but they have to use the smallest speculum and I think the clinic uses the big metal one?

So I was too late to request sedation or GA but they can give me a Valium (or UK equivalent) and some gas painkiller during so I think it'll be okay 😊🤞🏼

@2021babyhope hope you got on ok with your ET? How are you!

I had mine yesterday 2 ww begins....

2021babyhope · 12/08/2021 10:21

@hopingfor was absolutely fine - was worrying over nothing. I think the temazepam helped but it was super smooth and really quick!

I'm good 😊 already dying to test and trying not to over symptom spot! Spending time on the sofa and just trying to relax really!

How're you? Did you do a 3 or 5 day transfer?

@2021babyhope aww great another hurdle we got over! I did a 5 day transfer. How about you?
What do you have planned for your 2ww? Have you got time off work? Or carrying on business as usual? Im not sure what to do didn't think about this part too much

2021babyhope · 12/08/2021 12:12

@hopingfor we did 5 day too 🥰

Well I'm off until Monday then back to work! My OTD is the 20th so won't have long to wait but I'm watching a lot of films haha

@2021babyhope my OTD is 22/8! Let's hope these embryos stick

2021babyhope · 13/08/2021 12:43

@hopingfor 🤞🏼🤞🏼 the waiting is so hard. I go from blind positivity that it's worked to being sure it hasn't. Thank god I'm off work till Monday is all I can say 😅

How're you getting on with the wait?

@2021babyhope morning how are you keeping?
So I have been back to work yesterday! Weekend with my niece so I'm sure she'll keep me busy!

How the dreaded symptom spotting going? I'm only 3dp5dt and last 2 days I feel so light headed in the evening not like me! Could be nothing! How about you? You had anything?
