Hi
I didn’t get much response in the other boards so re posting again here

Sorry if this isn’t the right board as I am not trying to conceive yet however I want to soon and I am a bit concerned about my blood results

These weren’t done on day 3 they were done on day 8 as I had a full medical and didn’t even realise it included hormone tests.

I do have suspected PCOS have various symptoms adult acne, weight gain and some hair on my chin ( lovely) ive been told various things over the years has several scans that have said everything was okay. I do ovulate as I take ovulation tests every month as my cycle was all over the place so I wanted to check if I did ovulate and get a peak then my period 14 days after like clockwork

My FSH is 8.7 IU/l the doctor states this is normal and the range she is going of is 3.5-12.5 IU/l

I’ve seen various different things on google and on these forums of women with FSH of 9-10 and being told this isn’t normal yet from google what I can see is that FSH under 12 seems to be normal ?

I am 31 btw.. I had the same tests done when I was 28 and my FSH was alot lower at 3.9 these were done on day 3 though as I remember clearly

I am panicking a bit about this. Could doing them on day 8 have effected the results ?

You need to redo that blood test as bloods taken on the wrong day can give meaningless results. A day 3 test is needed to compare your LH level against that of FSH; its no point in measuring FSH on its own. Given that you may have PCOS you need a firm diagnosis first and foremost.

Re your comment:-

It may also be that you are not ovulating regularly particularly in the event your cycle is still all over the place. These home based tests are unfortunately not all that reliable nor is it correct to assume that ovulation occurs around 14 days before a period. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can happen earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. You can get a rise in temperature in the second half of your cycle when an egg has not been shed and a rise in LH does not necessarily mean that ovulation has occured.

The cystic follicles associated with PCOS do disappear only to be replaced by other cystic follicles. These can be very small and it can take a skilled sonographer to spot them. This may also be why these were not seen; again you need an up to date internal ultrasound scan. Any test result over six months old should be discounted.

@AttilaTheMeerkat I have two recent scans within the last 6 months one which showed I had ovulated.

I have also been pregnant 3 times

My LH is evaluated compared to my FSH and I know that is a sign of PCOS

I was just wondering how my FSH was for my age
