Hi all,

Iv just had fertility assessments done for myself and DP. My fertility came back average for my age and DP has low motility and morphology and told we would need ICSI. Also need to reduce my BMI to 35 before starting.
The nurse discussed with me that as im 32 id be recommended to implant 1 egg and not 2 due to twins being high risk.

Can i ask what you ladies what you decided to do ?

Thanks Smile

Hi, when you ask what others decided to do, do you mean single vs double embryo transfer?

UK clinics won't do a double transfer unless you are older or you've had unsuccessful transfers previously.

Well I did a double transfer age 36 and had twins. Only do it if you are prepared mentally emotionally physically and financially to have twins (or even triplets)

Most clinics won't DP doubles unless you are over 37 or had multiple failed transfers previously or unless you only had two lower quality embryos on day 3 or 5 so they think one might not be worth freezing so put it back in with another one

Thanks both. The clinic said they advise against it for my age but would allow us to have 2 embryos if we still want to go ahead.

Im not sure id like the idea or potentially having more than 2 babies!

It's unusual they would let you do a double transfer at your age. We were told clearly it wasn't an option and were in our early 30s too. Personally, I wouldn't risk it as your chances of success are higher anyway, and even with a single embryo the likelihood of twins is higher than the norm. Personal decision though really!

I don't think it is a good idea and also surprised that the clinic are giving you the choice at your age.

Twins are bloody hard work - I know from family experience! I really don't recommend it especially if it's your first try.

Thank you all, i think we are definitely set on 1 egg!

Can i ask if any of you found any good blogs to read up on the IVF process? I feel like i have so many questions and think that might help?

Didn’t read any blogs but I’ve enjoyed listening to the BFN podcast on Spotify. Lots of different stories/ perspectives and some much needed humour Smile they also have a Dr segment with fertility mythbusting. One of the presenters has had ICSI. Best of luck!

FYI - Pregnancy is discussed in some episodes but they always put a trigger warning so you can skip if you’re having a wobbly day.

I liked the BFN podcast too and found the episodes when they did talk about pregnancy handled sensitively. It was a nice mix of interesting stuff and a bit of humour/less intense discussion.
