I am about to start ivf and I have to take norethisterone tablets for 5 days starting on day 21 , I was thinking that if I ovulated on day 14 and got pregnant naturally , would the norethisterone tablets get rid of the pregnancy ? I would like to have last go after trying naturally .. thank you for any advice !

A friend was taking norethisterone as we were going on holiday and she wanted to delay her period till we got back, we went on holiday, had the time of our lives (including heavy drinking daily) she stopped taking it when we got back but her period never arrived. A few weeks later she found out she was pregnant and now has a healthy one year old running around.

Norethisterone is a form of progesterone so I don't think it would get rid of the pregnancy but maybe check with your clinic if you're really worried x

Not sure if this is too late to help you, but we were about to start IVF and I took norethisterone from day 14, I can’t remember how many days I took it, but possibly 2 weeks, when I stopped the tablets my period should have started within 5 days, I think it was on the 7th day I took a test as they hadn’t started and I was pregnant. I do not want to give you false hope, but I fell pregnant naturally just before starting IVF and now have a 15 month old, so it can happen.

Thank you both for your advice Flowers I am taking the tablets now as I don’t have positive pregnancy test yet but I’m testing every day so if it becomes positive then I’ll stop the tablets StarSmile

My clinic are very clear that you shouldn't have unprotected sex if you'll be taking norethisterone. I guess it's just untested. Always really annoyed me not being able to try naturally!
