Egg transfer - drink water at the clinic or before?

I'm having my egg transfer in a couple of hours, first time.

It's a day 5 transfer, my clinic gave me the appointment when they called with an update on day 3; they said the appointment would go ahead unless the embryos stopped developing in which case they'd call me the morning of.

They haven't called, so it seems to be going ahead. But they didn't mention anything about a full bladder, they just gave me a time to show up and said no perfume etc. So I'm wondering, for those who've been through it did you arrive at the clinic after drinking or did they give you water there? I'm just trying to decide how long I should expect the appointment to last and I don't want to down a load of water in advance for no reason!

Have a pint of water an hour before your transfer. The transfer should only take 20 mins or so then you can have a week.

Make sure you don't overfill like I did on one of my transfers as it's super uncomfortable!

I took a bottle and drank in the car. Not the nicest when they press on your bladder during the transfer, just remember why you're desperately trying not to wee yourself whilst they do Grin

Thanks both - I'll have a pint (of water) in the car then!

Hiya. I think it depends on your bladder - if I drank a pint of water an hour before I would be in agony within about 20 minutes!! 😂 Mine is smaller and works quickly so I don't need to drink that much for it to be fuller.

You only need your bladder to be half full so personally I would be sipping water over the previous hour and have a big drink (which for me would only be about half a pint) about 20-30 mins before. I also let a bit out (do a half wee!) if I feel like I am agonisingly full and they are keeping me waiting.

At my last transfer I was in so much pain from needing the loo - they wanted me to lie there for 20 minutes afterwards but I had to sneak out of the room to wee!

They won't give you water specifically although most clinics have a water cooler but I would take a bottle.

Best of luck!!!

I drank small amounts at home and then dipped all the way in the car. When it came to doing my transfer they said my bladder was too full and I'd have to try and let a little bit out but keep it relatively full... it was so so difficult as I was BURSTING to go.
Managed (somehow) to do it and the transfer went smoothly. Currently 13 weeks 😊

Best of luck.
Keep yourself busy during the TWW, it can be very long xx

That meant to say 'sipped all the way in the car'

Thanks all, I ended up drinking a pint in the car but when I got there it turned out my clinic doesn't care about bladder fullness! Which was quite weird I thought but oh well, they got the embryo in just fine.
