Can anyone tell me what happens after the blood tests and semen sample and being initially referred to the fertility clinic? I just want to know what I’m in for so I can prepare myself. Thanks

The doctor will decide if they need more tests for either of you and then give you a consultation on possible next steps.

When is your appointment?
Good luck and keep up posted!

Hi @Greencauliflowers

Once you're referred, you should receive a letter from the clinic with your first appointment. We started with an initial consultation in March (via video call) with a nurse who took a medical history, then she told us what tests we need to book in for. My partner had two sperm samples taken a few weeks apart, and I had blood tests for AMH, FSH (on cycle day 2) and Progesterone (on CD21). I also had an internal ultrasound to check follicle count and general health.

Once all tests were complete, we had a consultation with a doctor (mid-June) who told us the results - my results were all normal but partner has very low morphology. Our options were; keep trying, adoption, or assisted conception. At that point, as we're too old for IVF on the NHS (it's 37 where we live and I'm 38), we were discharged. We're now looking in to having private IVF (at the same clinic).

I was quite apprehensive at first, but it soon starts to feel like you're on the path to getting some answers which feels good.

Good luck with it all!
