Urologist for low fertilisation rate?

Hi you lovely lot,

Just want to start off by saying thank you so much for the support everyone has given on this board. I've really appreciated it but I need some advice and support again!

I've just had a consultant with my consultant. To date I've had 3 rounds of IVF, the 1st was just IVF with 3 out of 8 embryos fertilising but only 1 made it to day 3 and frozen, the second and third was ICSI and only 1 fertilised each time. Despite having ICSI, I still have an very low fert rate. Consultant says they can't tell whether it's embryo quality so they want my partner to see a urologist, so we've booked a consultation to see Dr Ramsey. My partner has had normal SA, the only exception was on the last set of results, some white cells were noted.

But isn't ICSI supposed to overcome male factor? I'm not sure what else a urologist can do. I just don't understand why the fert rate is so low! Has anyone else gone through the same thing?

@PPPPPP have you had a sperm DNA fragmentation test? ICSI doesn't overcome this. I'm sure Mr Ramsay will suggest one if not.

@Dbop100 no, he hasn't had one. I'm now wondering whether we should just arrange one anyway prior to his appointment with Dr Ramsey as he has quite a long waiting list! My OH is now on Impryl just in case

@PPPPPP Oh yes we're both on Impryl now (also good for egg quality apparently) following my husbands DNA frag results, which were high. All his other SA have been normal. We actually had ok fertilisation when we did IVF but the 1 blast I got didn't implant. DNA frag can cause low fertilisation, low implantation and miscarriage. Really wish they'd tested hun before we did IVF, I did ask but they told me no need as his other SA was fine

Hey lovely, I have read that poor fertilisation rate can be more likely to indicate an egg issue as the sperm tends to be more important from day 3 and beyond- just checking they haven't mentioned any egg quality issues at all?
I have heard amazing things about Mr ramsey so I think you will be in good hands! Has DH had Ultrasound as sometimes undiagnosed varicocele can cause sperm issues?cif there are white cells could there be infection? My DH was given antibiotics and told to repeat sample in 3 months in our case it didn't change a lot though xx
