Hi all,

I’m trying to save a bit of money for my private FET cycle and I have to have been bloods taken as it’s been a while. Has anyone had their GP do it for them for free for private IVf. It’s

HIV
HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN
HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIBODY
HEPATITIS C ANTIBODY
FULL BLOOD COUNT
THYROID PROFILE

Thanks!

No I wouldn't have thought a GP would do blood tests for you as part of private healthcare treatment. The cost of the bloods is probably the least of your worries 😬 you can save money getting a private prescription and sourcing meds yourself. I think Asda is often said to be cheapest.

@mouse1234567 I've definitely had full blood count and thyroid done at the GP. Make sure you get a print out of the actual results though. For thyroid the GP will tell you that under 4 is ok but the IVF clinic will want it under 2.5. Private thyroid test is about £40

Yes! Definitely worth asking. I think it depends where you live but I’m in Scotland and my GP was willing to do all my bloods for private treatment. If you can save in any way, why not? It’s expensive enough.

I'm in London and have used GP bloods for both cycles. They had no objections. And agree, treatment is expensive enough.

@mouse1234567 I had the majority of my initial blood tests done at the GP too (for private IVF). They had no issue with it. Good luck.

Officially NHS GPs are not meant to do bloods on behalf of private clinics, but if you have a kind GP then they might ignore this rule and provide you with a blood form! Choose your GP carefully - is there someone at your clinic who is understanding of your situation?

I've had those blood tests at my GP

I’ve had mine done at request of my GP this week, but I’ve got private and NHS balls in the air so not sure if that helps. I’m allowed private rounds as well as nhs in my CCG.
