Cysts and egg quality/quantity

Dear all,

My head is spinning, so thought of sharing some news about my 2nd treatment cycle for a bit of reassurance.

I had my first IVF cycle is Feb 2021, which was cancelled due to total fertilisation failure - I had nine eggs collected, six were mature, but none of them fertilised. We were advised to go for a second cycle with ICSI, which was hopefully going to improve our fertilisation rates.

I started my second cycle in June and had my first scan on day 8 - I thought it was a bit late was I had a baseline scan and another scan on day 5 the first time. The doctor just said that the follicles were bigger than expected (3 around 18 mm) but seemed overall positive. I went for another can today (day 11) and the doctor could see 5 follicles, one of them around 23 mm. He was adamant that it was a cyst, not a follicle, and said that it will likely affect egg quantity/quality overall. He said a couple of times that 'there might not be any eggs this time' but that we should go ahead with retrieval 'anyway', so that the cyst can be aspirated. I am just shocked at the difference between the first and the second doctor in terms of prospect? Should the cycle be cancelled if there's no hope to get any eggs?

I am just down in the dumps after the scan as I wasn't expecting this outcome at all. Any experiences of good number of eggs albeit the development of cysts? Thank you once again for all the help and support!
